  • hey all

can anyone guide me on to the purpose of these dust caps?

where do they fit on a 75? i figured they go on the crank bolts? but the crankbolt casing needs to be removed so its just the bolt which fits through the dust cap.

    could anyone clarify please.

  • Erm shouldn't they just screw in, to cover the crank bolts ?

  • once the crank bolts have gone in these screw over the top to to close the hole where the bolts went in

    i'll get some piccies

so they go on top of the actual crank bolt? nothing needs to be removed and they fit 75's fine?

pics would be great as i can't work out how they would screw on top as mine doesnt seem to have any space to screw on top of the crank bolt?

    Yes, simple.

Don't overtighten them though as they're alloy and the allankey fitting wears away very easily - lesson I've learnt :-(

  • crank bolt and dust cover in one here

here they can be seen on these campy cranks
    already in situ

tighten them up good and tight otherwise you'll hear them bouncing down the street one day !

  • but not too tight !!
    as pista says

    any pics?
also what condition are they in ?

  • It also depends on what bolt you have, there's 2 different kinds. Socket wrench bolt or allenkey bolt. I have both....

This is the 'socket wrench bolt'(underneath the dustcap). The dustcap ONLY works on this kind

This is the 'allenkey' bolt. Dustcap does NOT fit over the top

  • any pics?

One set are in great condition, the others not so great but still good... Will try and remember to take some pix tonight... Only 12GN...

  • many thanks pistanator,
saved me 18£ as i have the allen key bolts.

So you have the kind in my bottom pic, with the black rubber seal?

The bolts should come either with the bottom bracket/axle or the crank? You just said you already have the allenkey bolts....so don't get what you mean?

  • sorry dude.
on my cranks i have an allen key fitting with the black rubber seal (pic 2)
    they came with the 75's.
so the dust caps won't fit on top of them and i'll need the 'socket wrench bolt'?

  • so the dust caps won't fit on top of them and i'll need the 'socket wrench bolt'?

    The dustcaps won't fit, correct
You don't need a socket wrench, just an allenkey - like in pic 2

The socket wrench bolt is underneath the dustcap(which uses an allenkey) in pic 1 - THIS IS NOT YOUR FITTING

  • cheers for the explanation.

  • This is the 'socketwrench' bolt, dustcap goes over the top(pic 1 above)

    NOT RELEVANT FOR YOU

  • where can you pick those up??
