Parker International wheel build quality?

Posted on
  • Has anyone used Parker International for wheel builds? I've got a quote from them and it's the best price I have seen yet. It is because they can source all the parts for cheaper than everywhere else - or do you get what you pay for?

  • Never had any myself but I know a few people from another forum who've had them and rate them highly. Wheelbuilds are done by an ex-GB track mechanic apparently.

  • I had some open pros on goldtecs built by them in 2003, no problems at all. Now on the polo bike.
Some years ago now so cannot vouch for quality control.

  • Hey decay,

I'm running a wheel building class soon: http://www.londonfgss.com/thread6470-6.html

If you build your own wheels you will be forever proud.

  • Learning to build them would be very tempting. Let me consider it as Parker International are offering build with an Ambrosio 32 hole track hub, Mavic Open Pro Silver rim, 3x pattern for around 80 quid.

I know it would be about 50 quid to buy the hub and rim myself but I am not sure how much the spokes would be.

  • i bought some wheels from a forumenger here which were built by parker and they are solid.

  • Parker pricing is basically the parts at pretty much the best prices you'll find if you wanted to DIY and a free build and postage thrown in.

  • ha too true...i'm selling my truing stand!

  • Silver spokes cost 50p apiece in a shop - probably less online.

  • spoke prices over last year...

  • Ved, Master Wheelbuilder.
    cough
    cough

  • alright lenni you fucker !

you got me by the balls.

  • I feel bad now.

  • :D

    its the truth tho!

  • Parker prices are really good. They're my 1st port of call for boxes of cheap spokes so it figures they can build a nice wheel at a good price.

  • Really? I am on first name terms with the dude at Cyclebasket. They were the cheapest for spokes.

    Wrong measurement again Ved?
    Yup!
    Another box of 144?
    Yup.

  • FWIW, Sapim spokes are 40p apiece at London Fields (price accurate as of 8 seconds or so before close of business today, thank fuck).

  • outspoken cycles sorted me out with spokes, on their website they only sell ACI DB spokes in boxes of 144 but if you email them you can get them in smaller numbers. I got 64 for £15 delivered.

  • Before Christmas I got lucky and got a 144 box of those ACI DB spokes (black) from Parker for £12. There are also sets of 36 DT Swiss sold on ebay cheap sometimes.
