Why does it hurt ? What causes the pain, when does the pain start... ie cycling, walking, running etc ?
More details please.....

wrecks = northernism for pain. "ah tha' fuckin wrecks man!" etc

gremlins.

If shins is hurting you it's probably because you fed him after midnight.

Firstly let me say I'm not medical.
But I'd guess it's a back problem.
I had a similar part of me go numb and from my understanding / research, I think I pinched a nerve in my vertabrea.... numbness went after about 2/3 months.I did in my research find that I was probably riding with my back badly arched, so have also changed riding position, but think the pinched nerve would have grown back anyway...
Er or gremlins...

or possibly directly to do with exercise, muscular.... shin splints ? Very painful, and re-occuring re injury, poor technique in the actual cause ( ie running ) or biomechanical flaw ??
still need more exact info.... :)

Nick-Nack, i was doing traing for spint triathlon and my left calf pulled a muscle on the treadmill. so i stopped running. then the shin problem started the following week. delayed reaction to the muscle pull on the calf?? mmm? i cant get why the shin pain in so concentrated and hasnt eased after 5 weeks no running. I have continued cycling and swimming, (i cycle about 75 miles week)
Tiswas, is your cultural sesitivity a chink in your armour...? ;) -

The 50p sized coment is what makes me think it's nerve/back related. Shin splints are muscle related so the whole shin hurts (I used to get them too!), if it's strangley localised and about that size, it's probably the nerve as that's about the area of skin served by a nerve bundle.
I should point out that I think I did mine whilst running... have ran since it was better (also do about 3 times the distance cycling into work than back then) and not reoccured...
Posibly poor technique, nick-nack, hows my technique now? ;-)

Calf muscle ? As in, back of lower leg, not shin ?
okay, so when did you start training.... have you always run ? have you started training recently ?
Too much too soon ? Probably the most common cause of shin splints... :) ( i know ! )
Has the calf muscle completely healed, you could have started running before it completely healed and therefore have adopted an out-ward role on your gait ( supernate ? ) = poor technique = injury..
It sounds like a shin splint to me, but im not saying you shouldnt see a physiotherapist....to double check.... :) plus she/he can give you some intense stretches for that specific area.
the bastard thing with shin splints is once youve got them theyre hell to get rid of...well they were for me anyway....
anyway, swimming should be great for it, especially dolphin kick, or flexing your feet downwards in the pool...
also when sitting do foot raises, rolling inwards aswell.... should pull on the shin muscle....
also you want to do good calf and soleus ( lower calf ) stretches..... another good intense stretch, stand half arms length from wall, feet hip width distance apart, feet turning in slightly, say , feet either side of a clock, left foot a number 9 and right foot at number 3.... then move the front of the feet inwards to 12.... heels are left at numbers 9 and 3.... now place hands on wall and lean into wall to stretch the calves.... increase this up to full arms length from the wall.... but slowly work up to this... no bouncing, hold stretch for at least 30 secs, increase if you can... obviously stop if you get pain..anyone else ?
Goodluck with the Triathlons.... not hampton open air ones are they ??

btw, im not medically trained either... just have alot of experience with injuries... Im biomechanically flawed though.... :(

Possibly, but not necessarily.... tight calf muscles are also a common cause of shin splints.... imbalance.... all muscles have an opposite ! :)
Get with the ying and yang man..... :)

it sound like you didn't line the inner tube value to the tyre's logo.

Could be the volume of training that you are completing for your triathlon has lead to a fatigue injury - in some cases, this can lead to a stress fracture (are you woken with any pain during the night?). Any swelling? Does the pain subside during activity..?
Does any genius out there know why my shin hurts? Lower left, to the inner side of the tibia, a 50p piece-size area. 5 weeks now. X-ray this mornign says there is nothing wrong..
fed up now. cant afford bupa MRI scan.
