that fork looks bent, or is it just a funny angle?
-
• #4
hopefully it's just the picture...
i'll keep that in mind for future reference -
• #5
I think the fork is bend, fear not thought as you can able to simply find another fork to replace it, althought worth checking the frame carefully if the fork is indeed bend, as the frame might've suffer some damage as well.
search for ghost bike while you're at it too! (reference to the white deep v).

hopefully they're not bent.
but i'm preparing for the worst for £30...
it didn't say anything about bent forks on the ebay listings.
but some people like to see what they can get away with!i searched for ghost bike, was that implying that it's not a good idea to have a fully white bike?
i'm confused haha -

bang on mate, ghost bike tend to be all-white, even the tyres as a memorial to a cyclists who die on the spot, althought it is your bike, do whatever you want with it.

thought you mite be interested in what someone else on here did to their flyer
not quite budget but it is amazing. great job ed, i'm still surprised how good you made that bike every time i see it.
-

i was thinking about white deep v, black tyres, spokes and hub.
gradually building as i get the money...
a black crankset would be nice...and, that is a very beautiful bike.

Deep V'Zzzzzzz....
-
• #11
I think i've decided to keep it a little more traditional rather than deep v's.
A guy on here recommended 'Mavic Open Sport' rims...
really what i need advice on is a decent but cheap hub that preferably i could get in black... -
• #12
get those System EX/SJS/Formula/etc. hubs, they're cheap and reliable, used them in the past, does the job.
if I were you, go to Bike and Bits, then check the "list", you'll find a lots of information on choosing bicycle component.

The forks in fact were a little bent, but i'm not complaining for £30...
After converting it to singlespeed, peeling off the stickers and giving it some general tlc this is what i've ended up with... -
• #15
rear brake?
-
• #16
rear brake?
but its fixed??
-
• #17
mate, not only your fork is bend, but also your headtube!
-
• #18
well spotted ed, get that headtube looked at and sorted before you do anything!
-
• #19
definitely bent, no way the flyer that tight.
-
• #20
It is not fixed as of yet, i converted to single speed until i have the money for a new rear wheel, which will be fixed.
I will definitely get this looked at, thanks for pointing it out!
A little disappointing really...
The big question is, do you think it's proving to be more trouble than this frame's worth?! -
• #21
you certainly don't want the forks to snap.
-
• #22
definitely haha
-
• #23
i found a pair of forks on ebay, i shall measure the head tube when i get in to see if these will fit (if it's needed?).
but, they look pretty much identical.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=280344451162&_trksid=p2759.l1259

get the bike checked at your lbs... the frame might be fekked.
-
• #25
okay, will do when i have the chance.
I recently bought a 'Rayleigh Flyer' from ebay for £30 for my first build.
I'm a big newb when it comes to fixed gear.
After watching countless youtube videos on how to convert a road bike to fixed gear and reading Sheldon Brown's pages on converting to fixed gear over and over i think i now have the confidence to start!
I'm on a very very tight budget and looking to get maybe a rear wheel with white deep v's?
is that too much to ask on a small budget, of about £60 for the rear wheel?
I want to get this up and running asap!
