looking for wide not so expensive rims similar to A23 (Archetypes are expensive and heavier) it's for a disc wheelset. TFG seems like the only shop which sell A23s
Saw this Alpha ZTR disc wheelset. Even has my favourate spokes for disc brake use.

Not many rims around that are wide, take road PSIs, and dont have a braking surface.

I've just written an A23 rim off.
Best deal I* could find on a replacement was at BLB. They're selling silver and black A23s for £52.
More expensive than TFG, but they have more than just 32h drillings.
*By "I", I mean the man who does all of this stuff for me.

Failing that, the Pacenti SL23 is the A23 killer with a slightly wider rims and identical weight.

attaque84 - How'd you write of the A23?
Only asking as they are my only wheelset at the moment. Use for commuting and weekend riding. So far no problems but not sure whether I should invest in a cheap pair of wheels just for riding to work.

Get the ZTR? Bit obvious really.
road PSI innit

how are these rims? They are gentle on the wallet too!

£88 for a rim!?

Don't you remember NoTube saying it's fine?
Stop worrying about damaging them, they're more than enough to handle road psi and your tubby weight.
I'm still running 25c with 108psi on the rear.

That Alpha ZTR disc I linked to are described as being for road/CX use. Cant say I seen the rims around separately.Personally, braking surfaces on disc wheelsets annoy me.

Mavic 29er disc rims would be cheaper than A23s, albeit a bit heavier. TN319 maybe?
-
• #1513
^ they are not 'that' cheap for the weight penalty .. but i am tempted for the economy, dammit has the exact wheelset I am after which I am pursuing him to sell :P TN719s on Hope

Well, yeah. Rigida Sputniks? ;)
Velocity Blunt SL would make quite a nice-looking disc wheelset.

I have the standard blunts and love them. Nicely made, and very tough for the weight. Not sure what the max PSI of the bead lock is though. Run mine <30PSI.

^ exactly, when I called strada they said that no MTB/cross specific rim would be able to run road tyres on high PSI, scoble disagrees and there is discussion about this on the interwebz esp on ZTR forums hence I thought A23s would be a good balance ..
-
• #1517
Would the Blunt SL not be happy with an appropriate PSI for road tyres? You reduce PSI for wide rims anyway, no?
A23 are specifically designed for it though, so I suppose you might just stick with them. I think you can get them in black with no sidewall machining.

with archetypes (23mm wide) I am running conti GP 4000s 90PSI front and back; A23's are at the top of the list atm was just wondering about alternatives for my requirements, IRD cadence stands out for the economy and weight too

I still think you're making a mountain out of a molehill with the ZTR, especially when you can lower it.
If you're running conti 4 season at 90psi, then it's perfectly fine with the lighter ZTR.
-
• #1520
Even road rims have lower PSI ratings than road tyres IIRC. So its a worthy question.
IRD cadence have been critised for saving weight by having thin braking surfaces, and therefore reduced longevity. Something that you need'nt worry about as a disc brake user. Cant remember how wide the new 'wide' cadenses are. But I seem to remember it not being a massive width.

I guess he alpha ZTR would be OK. I became sceptical at the mention of blunts.
Maybe I should try putting 120PSI into my 29er tyres to see if they go bang?
-
• #1522
Highly doubt it, I did the same with a 28c to force the tyres to mount the ZTR Crest rims.

I have an urge to build a disc brake CX wheelset based on carbon tubs rims with no braking surface. There are a few XC 29er race rims out there that fall into this category. As I dont race CX/XC I have no excuse though. Just curious.
May splash out on carbon 29er rims from Farsport et al, when I've finished all my other projects properly.
Get the ZTR? Bit obvious really.
