I've recently had some of these built up, so far a very nice ride, a lot less harsh than the deep V's I had before, not so confident about giving them as much abuse as the V's though.http://www.bicyclemagic.com/product/1442/DRC_700C_Classic_Alloy_Double_Eyelet_Rim

RR 1.1 sounds great.
I'm considering a 28/f 32/r build with miche low-flange hubs. how much stiffness and durability would I be losing with such a setup vs. a standard 32f/r high flange 3x build? I assume they'd be less stiff, but not spongy which would be a comfortable ride on the streets (no tricks or high curb abuse).

I have standard 32 spoke on the miche low-flange and they are a noticeably smoother ride than the V's, but I would definitely not say they were spongy. I live in a very hilly area, so i put them under a fair bit of stress, I haven't experienced any flex. I don't think going down to a 28 on the front would make that much difference for normal riding.

I have some Ambrosio Excellights on order from eBay at the moment (£81/pair inc shipping). If all goes according to plan, they should be built up fairly shortly if you want a look at them.

While we're reviving this thread: the Excellights arrived, got built up (courtesy of the lovely Hillbilly) and are deeply bloody nice thus far.
I am planning on building a wheelset in the next month or two. Besides Mavic Open Pros and Ambrosio Excellence and Sun M13II, what are some other decent box rims with a machined sidewall and in silver?
