Bottom bracket fail

  • new project bike is nearly done but when i went to tighten the chainset down it wont go in nice and flush to the frame, i can already see that the chainline wont be rideable like this.
Is my bottom bracket too long or am i better off mounting the chainring on the inside rather than the outside edge of the chainset-spider-bit (<insert correct term here)
the bottom bracket is the original square taper that came on my pug and the cranks are same as the white ones on here http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/userimages/procart7.htm

    so close to finishing :(

  • You need a wider frame.

  • Shorter BB, for sure. What cranks you running?

  • Shorter BB, for sure. What cranks you running?

http://www.charliethebikemonger.com/...s/procart7.htm the white ones on here (third ones down)

  • From what I remember they're the same casting as Andels (BLB). Transmission database suggest a BB length of 103mm.
What length is your current one?

  • i wont be able to check until i get home from work tonight. do i measure it from end to end?
this is when i start worrying about if i have english threading or not

  • Measure the total length of the spindle, end to end.

If you measure the width of the BB shell in the frame too while you're down there (minus the bottom bracket cups), and it's 68mm, you've got english threads.

  • cheers jammy will get on it asap

  • BB is 68mm but before i went down the new bottom bracket route i tried the chainring on the inside edge

seems ok havent had a chance to ride it properly yet

  • yeah but it looks sooo much better on the outside, and you should totally replace that old bb anyway...

  • i know, looks weak like that. will have to do for now. impatience and funds = bodge job

  • furry muff. My pug was the same for about 6 months!

  • aye, just need to get riding it now
