  • I figure we're likely to talk about what parts we're all running and so on, so here is a thread for us all to put it in.

Pedals seem to be a pretty popular set up to discuss and so do wheels. Put what ever you want in here be it questions, comments, grievances and whatever else you can think of.

  • 1 bike, 2 wheels, some cogs, a bit of chain, some rubbery bits, some steery bits & something to sit on.

How'd ya like me now! ;)

  • Even less than before, and I thought you were a dick before ;)

  • My current setup:

    Frame: Voume Cutter V2 56cm
    Fork: FBM Sword
    Headset: FSA Internal
    Crank: Miche Primato Crankset 48T
    Pedals: Wellgo SB Mag
    Straps: Selfmade
    Chain: KMC Premium Nano
    Seatpost: Premium Pivotal
    Seat: United Trinity Pivotal
Hubs: Miche Pista Hubset 32H 18T
    Rims: No Name
    Tires: Maxxis Refuse 25c
    Stem: Truvativ Holzfeller 60mm
Bar: X-tasy Riser round 20" wide
Grips: Twenty Eagle Grips GLow In The Dark

  • radial on a trick bike???

  • Id have thought it much stronger to have 3x surely?

    Also question:

Is it better to tension the spokes tighter than one normally would for general cycling? would it make it stiffer/ stronger? I have recently been getting quite a few really loose spokes and was wondering whether it was from the extra pounding they get?

  • yeah, its no problem, i dont ride, i only photoshop myself into diffrent places ;)

i love hard spokes. i hate weak wheels.

  • Well that's a bit flash!

  • what are you doing up at 4?

  • it wasn't 4am. it may have been rather late (or early, depending on how u look at it!). sometimes the forum gp more important than sleep!

  • Sweet straps dude, desperate to get hold of my new ones!

    hint hint ;)

  • Has anyone got any material that has a plasticy nature to use for home-made powergrips? The ones I'm currently using flatten far too easily if I tread on them and don't stay open when I come to put my feet in.

  • How did you know I'd look at this James?

@BD - my straps should be ready asap if you fancy a pair. Will update with pics asap.

  • Wouldn't mind a look at them but I'm pretty skint at the mo. Any idea how much they're going to come out at?

  • Hmmm, maybe £30? but no clips required and adjustable compared with powergrips.

  • I've been using a sliced up tyre as straps for a few months now, showing some wear but still holding up fine.

  • That's not a bad idea. I may well give that a try. Cheers moog!

  • These will be worth the wait and cash monies, trust me guys ;) wayyyyyyy better than powerstraps.

  • i wonder if the trick setups will go to freewheel in the future?
    700c freestyle not fixed freestyle?

when you learned a proper 180 on the big bike...then a freecoaster hub could be nice.

    what do you think?

  • I think if that's the case then we'll all just end up on BMXs. The only thing tying us to 700c is the fixed thing. People are already starting to try 26" inch wheels and in some cases 24". If we got to freewheel now then it would be silly not to have a street/jump mtb rather than a 700c track bike. It would definitely make hopping a lot harder on a freewheel with 700c wheels.

Goto freewheel on 700 and you need at least one brake which imo goes against that stripped simple look that most trick setups are going for. I think freewheel would be a step to far in the bmx direction.

Gearing too tho could take the bike too far in the direction of bmx's. I see a lot of trick setups running a really low gear which surely cannot be practical for anything other than trick riding.

For me the appeal of riding a trick orientated setup track bike is that i can still ride my bike at decent speed and over a decent distance. I have 44/17 at the moment and cannot imagine going much lower while still keeping the versatility of my bike.

I guess that's maybe because i'm never going to be *that*into tricks. I suppose some people might not be that into riding at a decent pace or any further than a couple of miles.
