Cane Creeks. Pocket the other £55 for coke.

where the heck did you find the Halo wheelset for 139.98? Arent they usually about plu minus 90 each?
-
• #5
£183 gets you Goldtec hubs built onto black Open Sport rims 32 SS spokes
That's a class pair of wheels although a fair bit more than your budget, better than anything you've suggested. -

I'm in the process of getting some wheels together for my Fuji - just ordered a pair of Ambrosio Excellight from eBay for £81 inc. shipping. I have a front hub thanks to Wiggle messing up so only need a rear, but this looks a good offer: http://www.chamberlainecycles.co.uk/products.php?plid=m2b26s188p764&rs=gb - together that'd be £129, so should come in only slightly above your budget once spokes and a bribe to your favoured builder are taken into account.

@ steff - unlike you, i aint got a clue what im doing with wheel builds, so id rather get it all in one. but thanks man
@ AlexB - thanks for the advice, but im stretching to 150, as is. Just trying to make the best choice with the $$ i can scrape together!
@ Dovoneil - i am seriously thinking along those lines ;)

I have no particular clue either, chap. However, with the aid of the interwebs and a bribe of cider to a certain forumenger I hope to remedy that and get myself a nice pair o'hoops into the bargain.

since you cant build have a look at this guy:
http://www.yogarup.com/wheels/
i have never used him but he orders in the hubs and rims (costing essentially the same price as online) and builds them for you at 30 pounds for a pair-build. i am going for miche primato built on open sport (silver) to get a semi classic look and the quote with him would be around 150 pounds. -

He makes wheelbuilding look well EZ.
But I wonder, why is he charging people when he shows you how to do it yourself...?

I love the way nobody ever sticks to the short list :)
I'm with Ved for bang for buckness, planet-X, but they seem to be out of stock. They have some nice Navigator pistas for £159
If you want to buy them in bits and build them yourself, or get someone esle to do it...
Suzie promax SB 32H £30/(rear) £35 (front) here
http://www.planet-x-warehouse.co.uk/..._Rear_231.html
http://www.planet-x-warehouse.co.uk/...Front_232.htmlRigida DP18 Aero rims £23 each
http://www.parker-international.co.u...-700c-Rim.html
or Rigida sputnik low profile rims £17 each
http://www.parker-international.co.uk/11155/Rigida-Sputnik-700c-Rim.htmlCompetition spokes £44 for 80
http://www.parker-international.co.u...5g-Spokes.htmlThats £155 or £143 depending on which rims you go for. For everyday riding on rough roads the low profile rims might be the best choice (they are eyeleted too, which makes for a stronger build).
(ED: from the shortlist CANE CREEKS)

I've got the Cane Creek Volos tubs on my track bike which got their first run out over the weekend at Sat/Sun Herne Hill sessions. Very stiff even with a huffalump like me sprinting on them, weigh fuck all and spin up really fast too.

speak to shedborn for cheap rear wheels.
Yo! :D
I'm on to getting some wheels now (using em with brakes) with a budget of under 150.00!
I don't know *anything *about wheels and will buy based on your opinions & advice.
OK, recently ive been looking at these 4:
1) Charge Dish Wheelset - *129.99* "Dish wheel-sets, ready to fit straight onto your Charge Plug or any 700C frame with 120mm spacing. Deep V section rims and high flange hubs built into tough wheels ready for the tough streets. Strong and durable, these wheels will keep you rolling for longer and with less fuss than anything else."Hub: Large flange flip flop (Fixed/Freewheel), cartridge bearingSpokes: Stainless steel spokes (32 Spoke each wheel)Rim: CNC machined side walls
2) Halo Aerorage Track Front & Rear Wheel - *139.98
Light and strong with an attractive mid size 25mm Aero section.
CNC machined finish brake surface.
Weight: 980g
Colour Options Black, White (with Black Spokes) or Yellow (with Black Hub & Spokes)
**
3) A fixed/free handbuilt wheelset on Zenith sealed bearing hubs - *120.00***
No Piccy. built by http://www.spacycles.co.uk/
and last but not least,
4) A set of (used) Cane Creek Volos for 95.00
done less than 300miles
So what do you thinks?
Out of the 4 above which would you go for? BTW I'm not into tricks, but i do ride pretty fast and over many different surfaces at speed lol
thanks in advance!
