hi there, just been building up a new bike and having problems with the headset. can anyone tell me if these metal bits at the top and bottom of the head tube can be removed and fiitted on to my new frame?

They are called headset bearing cups and, yes, they can. You can buy the tool or use a hammer and screwdriver - just be gentle.

Same thing. Some gentle hammer and screwdriver action will knock it loose.
