  • Ok..... please bear with me on this....

I am after a bike that I can carry my kid in that is like a deliery bike.. a 3 wheeler..

I have seen a woman riding one that looks like a wooden box with a couple of seats in it ( not like a rickshaw! lower and seperately attached i think) with a red rain cover... i have been searching on the net with out any joy....

I know this is for us and our fixed things but I need another bike (any excuse!) for him as well so i can get out....

    ta!

Think this is what you're after?

  • F**K me! thats the one!

Thanks for that "cake" thought i was going to go mad looking for something that dosn't exist!

    Yipeeee

  • No sweat, also, now my memory's kicked in, check out this thread.

  • Seem to be known as bakfiets in Holland, where they are quite common:

  • There was a bloke riding one round herne hill at the good friday meet. There were at least 4 kids in it, init.

    Subscription highly recommended.

  • Have you looked at Xtracycle as an option?

Fits on to the end of an existing bike and extends the wheel base (see pic of bike with two kids sitting over the rear wheel on first page).
Charliethebikemonger sales them on his EBay shop.

  • Also look at Practical Cycles, home of all of your utility bike needs:

  • Christianias and Cargobikes available for test rides at Velorution. We are restoring a vandalised tricycle, which will soon be offered at an attractive price.

  • I'm going to become a dad for the second time in a week or so, and as we have all we need equipment wise from No1 son. We have asked the in-laws to fund a bike trailer as their baby gift. But I am now totally hooked on the idea of a cargo bike. It would really help in my quest to make minimal car journeys too. Love the Christianias.

Man this forum gets me into trouble ;)

some children were being happily transported in something similar on the recent memorial ride if memory serves correct.

  • @Smallfurry

    Ladies' man.

Tania and Robin....it's a Christiana bike, think Robin built the seats in and had the cover custom-made.....wicked set up, looks indestructible!

  • thanks to all for the suggestions lads i'll be getting busy!

  • Just sent an enquiry to Christiania bikes.
Hopefully it wont be too costly to get one here. I'm already thinking about the final setup. I'm thinking of something like the pic, equipment wise. Would look stunning with varnished box and honey Brooks + bar tape/sew-on. Might need to invest in some plus fours, just to wear when dropping the kids at nursery.

  • I see someone most mornings dropping their kids off at nursery opposite my flat, trailer with two kids in, seems to come from Charlton way, always pretty impressed by it. It seems like it must be a fun way for kids to get to school / nursery.

Someone I know got a Pashley trike with a box on when his kids were small and it earned them no end of credibility that they were dropped off in this way.

I currently use a hamax bike seat to drop the nippa off. I am often greeted by jealous toddlers, and the wee man always lets them know that daddy goes super fast* :)

(*the coolness of this is somewhat ruined by the fact that I taught my son to say 'super fast' in English, which the Norwegian toddlers dont understand)

  • There are also the Winther Kangaroo, Nihola range and Triobikes . The Triobikes turn back into regular bikes so you could drop the kids off, chain up the carrying part and carry on normally.

Check out London recumbents for more info on other options.

  • It's also worth looking at a filibus lorri, they have a low axle and huge front and rear carrying racks. Nice bikes. Also someone referred to the Bakfeits as a christianna, they are two totally different bikes.

  • I'm thinking of getting an IBert Safe-T-Seat

anyone got any experience of these?
