  • Bastards have said i'm not to ride my bike for 8 weeks!

    What about Lance says I....

Ahh, that's different they said..... the surgeons knew Lance would be back on his bike in no time; they used special screws that can tolerate the impact/vibrations etc before the break has healed properly. I apparently do not have that luxury....

    Probably bollox, but who knows.

    Not a happy chappy.

    Hate fucking public transport

Oh, and no swimming for three months, so all my triathlon training is for nought.

  • Unlucky :(

    H(eal)TFU

  • Fuck nasty, I know its not much consolation but it could have been a lot worse, heal up soon dude, wishin you a speedy recovery.

  • 8 weeks?! Just ride one-handed.
...at least it's your birthday coming up, eh?
Bad luck, hope you heal up well.

  • harsh dude... get better quick like!

  • Will probably give it two weeks and see how I go.

Swimming is definitely a no no. Under no circumstances am I too raise my arm above 90 degrees for the time being, or (this I dont understand) put it behind my back.

Neither preclude being on the bike....

  • sorry to hear that will. see if you can get a good lawyer to reduce the sentence ;)

Two weeks, after you just got your collar bone pinned?! Don't be stupid lol. I've broken enough bones to know that doctors don't always get it right when it comes to healing times (they have to estimate on the conservative side to be safe of course), but seriously dude, don't be silly, it'll just hurt like fuck and not be good for you, the bones need time to knit and hence should not be subject to any heavy impacts so soon after being pinned, cycling included, i've injured myself a lot lol, trust me!

    Umm...

How else do you expect to flip the bird to the rozzers after RLJing?

  • how was your clavicle positioned when they first checked it, and what led the surgeons to decide on pinning them together?

im curious cos my broken clavicle was left untreated and everyone here (+greasy, plaigarist) had a surgery to pin them together. mine is a clean break right about the middle, slightly overlapping in its current position and possibly a bit of tendon or nerve in between. im not in constant pain, but in certain positions my shoulder/arm feels a bit numb.

  • Heal up quick dude.
When I obliterated mine last year I was still back on the bike 4 weeks later and back playing polo within 8 weeks.

Just listen to your body and don't overdo the painkillers before trying your first ride, I'd be suprised if you can't ride again within a month.

Not true dude, I was offered the pinning but I turned it down as the healing time was longer and the end resulting strength would be identical.

From what I was told the only difference would be the aesthetic value once I was healed (And like I give a fuck about that).

  • how was your clavicle positioned when they first checked it

Looked like this immediately after the break.

They recommended pinning as the bone ends were so far apart, and they said that there was a risk that if it was not pinned it would not join, which would mean a subsequent operation down the road with greater risk of complication.

  • Unlucky. Hope you heal faster than expected.

Buy or borrow a turbo or some rollers and you'll be able to keep some fitness.

    Have turbo. Hate turbo.

  • Me too but needs must.

  • There is a risk with pinning (the surgery itself, infection and also the nerves, tendons or other crap in the area) so if it can be avoided doctors generally will avoid it. Collarbones typically heal up fine anyway.. unless you're "special".

  • collarbones heal up bent more often than not if not pinned, which isnt good at all.

i'd want mine pinned straight, without doubt.

  • The result is aesthetic, there's no weight on the collarbone so it's a non-issue.
There is definitely an issue with surgery. People can react to the drugs, doctors can slip, infections can occur, etc.

  • ahhh clavical, did mine in about a year ago... didnt have pins because it was a clean break and the bone dropped down... if it had moved upwards they said they wouldve had to pin it...

FYI - back on my bike after 3 - 4 weeks...

  • P.S - I have a bump on my shoulder

  • They say I will have a bump (tho much smaller because of the pins). I''m told that it will go down over the years in any case, but i'm too old and ugly to worry about a bump.

  • 4 pieces..

  • Almost compound.. doh! Must try harder.

  • Guess they all hurt a little, but that looks mighty painful.

Getting the grit out of my back was like washing my face with a new sponge, much to Nursie's surprise....
