most people use aluminium poles for their polo mallets as the idea is to keep them light. I'm not sure these are going to sell as polo mallet shafts, maybe try and sell them as golf clubs?
-
• #8
Fair enough, I thought the extra durability might have been appealing, it seemed like a good idea at the time lol.

i use golf clubs for my polo mallets as do several other people,
some people have also changed from ski-poles to golf-clubs because of the durability.i might take one off you but i'm a bit strapped for cash,
i'm sure more people will when the rest of the polo crew get back from france! -

Cool let me know if you want one, I might bring a few down to polo or something at downham/mitcham/souths etc, i'm pretty strapped for cash at the moment myself lol.
-
• #11
Bump for y'all that are now back from france :)

• #12
good thing to say, will be the lenght of the shaft minus the head.
or even better put some pics
but remember that people get golf clubs for £4-£5 new
-

I'll take some pics and get some measurements up tomorrow for you guys, i'd love to know the quality of golf clubs you can get for £4-5 brand new! My very average set of Jack Nicklaus clubs cost a fair bit more than 4-5 quid per club, and they are not even really a mid range set.

we destory plenty of mallets, is strange the week that one of us don't break one.
a lot of times we don't look for the best mallet, if not for the cheapest
if you think yours Jack Nicklaus clubs are expensive, go to the bay and get some got money, don't sell them for peanuts
I think was Sport World in Oxford St, the shop selling golf clubs for a fiver, in steel and in fiber.
and Golf World??? in Finchley Rd selling them for £3.50 -

I thought they would be of particular interest as they were built in the days when steel shafted clubs were made with little to no flex and particularly overbuilt compared to clubs these days, which are pretty flimsy and weak in comparison, apart from arguably some of the higher end steel shafts, but preference these days is for lighter construction, as obviously technologies, manufacturing techniques and available materials have changed a lot since those days.

let me know how long is the longest one, i may be interested
-
• #18
Cool, i'll get measuring before I leave work tonight, shit weather and busted cranks means a trick session is highly unlikely if I want to be able to ride home on my bike in one piece lol.

I picked up a pair of clubs which sound similar to these, for the very same purpose at a car boot the other week. 50p each.

• #20

-
• #21

-
• #22

-
• #23

To be honest, even the "shorter ones" are quite long, as they were a long shafted set designed for people around 5 "10 - 6ft, i'm 6 ft 2 and even the irons (shorter ones) come up just past my waist. But i've still got a few woods (very long) Harry Major took a couple off me yesterday.
Hey guys thought these might be right up your street, i've got some vintage golf clubs for sale, pretty heavy duty (especially the irons which weigh about 3 times what your average club weighs these days for instance). I reckon they would be ideal for polo, i've got 2-3 woods with slightly longer shafts, and about 6 irons, and a putter, all with pretty chunky steel shafts.
£10 per club if anyone is interested.
