Nasty. It was all cordoned off last night aswell - cops and CSI-types all over. Seem to be a few of these lately :(

The E&C unfortunately plays host to a never-ending stream of collisions. It is one of the worst-designed street environments in London by a wide margin. We will keep hearing about those. Any sensible transport policy in London would make it an absolute priority to change these junctions radically. The report of people's complete indifference doesn't surprise me. I hope his motorbike wasn't damaged when he dropped it and that he genuinely came out of it OK.

its to wide with far to many filters around that round about. sadly the only way i attack it is fast as i can. few others do that and there is no surprise you have these accidents.
can't believe the other cars sounded the horns!!

Roundabouts, even of the scale and rubbish layout of the northern E&C roundabout, are not a problem if you're Stage 3 cycle trained, as the techniques to master one are really quite simple and don't require particularly fast speed. But that's in a situation where the funding for cycle training is so low that it simply can't keep up with a rapidly-growing cyclist population.
No blame intended at all for any cyclists riding through the E&C who are not cycle trained, BTW. It's a natural assumption we make that we can make mistakes in a social environment like traffic and not be too severely punished, but the current state of things is not right and shows up fundamental problems in which people interact with one another, and not just in traffic, where they often just import general bad attitudes or sociophobia and mix it with additional stress.
And I'd rather get rid of the roundabouts for millions of other reasons that have nothing to do with cyclist safety, than train everybody, as they are just bomb craters in the urban grain that must be radically altered to form part of the cityscape again.

Is this the second fatality in the same day?

This was yesterday afternoon, but yes, two in 24 hours. Not Good. Not good at all.

Not sure who was at fault. But it was interesting to see the lorry driver just trying to drive off, the bus driver doing fuck all, every car driver just beeping and several cyclists actually stopping to help the guy up, help lift his bike up and move it out of the way.
Hope all concerned are ok.
Sad. Empathy fail.

Bad 24 hours. But I have to say, DON'T UNDERTAKE HGVS FFS!
Dude, we don't know whether either person was undertaking an HGV
In my experience, just as many trucks swing left without indicating (or overtake and then swing left after misjudging how fast a bike is going) as there are people who undertake.
We don't know the facts, jumping to conclusions doesn't help.

Shit I know exactly where that was, ride through it every night, you have to be very careful coming up to red lights on the inside of traffic, I usually sit well back unless I know that the lights are not going to change.
Horrible, just horrible - two in 24 hours.

Remember the reports that said the chap who had a heart attack during the G20 protest hadn't had contact with the Police?
Anyway, as people have said, this isn't the time or place

I got to the elephant and castle at about 3 o'clock ish yesterday, ironically I had just had a lovely afternoons cycling in Surrey, I get back to elephant, and see a fucking huge flatbed sandwiched against the railings coming off the north roundabout towards newington butts. The police were holding up sheets, presumably as there was somebody under the truck. I think that actually seeing that in the blazing sunshine, rather than reading about it in the abstract, really hit home. Sure I know not to undertake trucks, but man oh man that accident looked horrible.
So now I really, really watch out for trucks. I'm not having any police man knocking on my door at 9 at night for that.

I live over looking that roundabout, theres always a lot of beeping and has been quite a few accidents. Saw the air ambulance turn up yesterday, police taped off a whole quarter of the roundabout including all pavement surrounding.
Nasty stuff, such a shame.

drivers are always doing this. on purpose some of them. happened to me today. i had to brake to avoid collision.
This time a motorbike, rider was ok I think but it could have been nasty. I came up on it just after it had happened. Was about 7.45 this morning.
Guy on a big moto had got himself sandwiched between a bus and a dumper truck, at the second big E&C roundabout exit . He dropped the bike, but luckily didnt get squished.
Not sure who was at fault. But it was interesting to see the lorry driver just trying to drive off, the bus driver doing fuck all, every car driver just beeping and several cyclists actually stopping to help the guy up, help lift his bike up and move it out of the way.
