Any decent Pizzerias in Brum?

  • Not your Domino's/Pizza Hut/Pizza Express chain type rubbishness, any independents that do proper large crispy thin crust pizzas ?

Would prefer closer to the centre as possible

  • I really really cannot think of any good independent pizzeria's

Theres lots of cheap ones for sure, which make your thick spongy things. But proper pizzeria pizza, nope!

  • Sorry Ste_S - as with everything in this bloody city - only the big boys survive here... just franchised pizza joints i'm afraid bud.

  • Little Italy in Moseley do pizzas but the reviews aren't that hot:

"the man across the table from us was giving my wife the eye!" -classy.

  • Caspian ftw!

  • little italy aint there no more!

And Caspian aint no pizzeria, its a fast food shop.

'Real' Pizza is well different from the spongy greasy stuff. And doesnt come with puke toppings such as kebab meat.

Not dissing Caspian though, its pretty good as are most of the cheap pizza/chip shops for a junk food fix.

  • As far as Pizzas go I dont think Pizza Express is too bad... just wang on some basil and Parmigianno Reggiano and your good to go. Let us not forget Ponte di Legno in Moseley too... they do a mean Monkfish Pasta.

  • Rimini's on Bristol Road, opposite Liquor Locker in Selly Oak is quite nice, can't guarantee it's still there though, think I last went there about 3 years ago.

  • Are any of these 'Italian' restaurants actually owned or run by Italian people? I'm sure Rimini was full of Turks. Not that the food was any worse for it though.

  • Pasta di Piazza opposite James Street, near St Pauls square (up the hill from Kerrang) is bloody amazing, they do those traditional stone oven pizzas... yum yum.

  • It's looking like somewhere closer to home then, Bella in Wolverhampton. Had a few good write ups, but is more a proper Italian restaurant rather than a Pizzeria.

Fingers crossed it's good, last time I went to a different Italian in Wolvo my Risotto was rice swimming in water, rather than creamy goodness

Edit - Didn't see your reply before I posted Pezza, will investigate

On a side note, has anyone tried Averna ?

Love the stuff, proper Italian restaurants should have it

  • All food in Ponte de Legno in Moseley is good. Their pizzas are good, their fresh fish selection is good, rare fillet steak with dolcelatte sauce is the best in the world...

  • San Carlo in town is one of my favourite restaurant in Birmingham. Probably the best risotto I have had anywhere and great pizzas as well.

  • I can't eat at Italian restaurants, knowing that I can cook better risotti, pizza, pasta and vegetable dishes than most of the ones I've been to, with ingredients that I've grown in my garden or bought from the market. I have to go for stuff that I'm crap at cooking. Like fish and chips!
