Go to campyoldy.com and run a few of the clinchers there through google for an idea of what they look like.
They're getting pricey though; I've used Omegas for a few years and they've nearly doubled in price since I last bought a pair. -

These are great rims although you may want the earlier models for a 70's look with the diamond sticker(?), I've been riding the same pair for twenty odd years.
Check out velobase for build ideas too if you haven't already.DS

Thanks both you guys, doktor I like the Ma-2's but can't find them anywhere for sale! You know of anywhere that sells 'em?

Parker International have got a few older Mavic clinchers for sale in their weeBay store - mostly grey ones, but shallow profile and cheap.

for 1970's coherence, look out for fiamme yellow label on ebay

I don't think the open pros on my early 80s Moser look out of place. Take the stickers off and there a fairly standard looking pair of box section rims (not much different from the Module-E or MA2).

apart from the shape of the open pros, the anodising looks well off!
I have some polished weinmann rims box-section 36H laced in wheels that I could liberate for you.? -

Just ride them a bit, they'll get dirty.

Ambrosio Excellence? I'm not a fan of the new graphics but they're wonderful rims.

provenrad how much would you want. I'm in manchester tho - are they likely to get fucked up in the post? Having silly ideas about trying out tubs on the original wheels but don't fancy walking 20 miles home if I get a puncture - are they fixable while out and about?

Yes, if you carry a spare.

joe1983 - sorry, I'm not gonna post them - too much risk!
On a positive note I think you should ride it with tubs. If you are really scared to puncture get some gatorskins. Don't cheap out on tubs and keep them at 100psi+ and enjoy the bike as it was meant to be ridden. tubs really aren't that bad. get some liquid latex incase you DO get a puncture you can inject it through the valve. get a cheap conti Giro tub as a spare. With the use of tubtape these days it's no more difficult thatn changing a regular tube. pre-stretch your spare tubs.
there's a few threads on the use of tubs if you search 'tubular OR tub'. -

Indeed it's the shallow profile to give you the look, usually a plain alloy finish regardless of make, keep an eye out for old tourers before the wheels are binned for bling....tourists love these bombproof shallow rims.
SJS have tons of rims including some old tubular rims, look through road, touring and sprint sections.
Happy hunting!http://www.sjscycles.co.uk/category-RIMS-161.htm

I sent two frames off to Bob Jackson for a respray to build into fixers but have recently acquired a full campag groupstet from 1970 is superb condition so thought I might build one up as geared. The rims are tubs though so I was going to salvage the campag record hubs and am at a loss to what rims to use. Want to retain a vintagey look but want good performance too. Any ideas?
