  • Hey there,

I've been on a few rides and covered a few miles with all this new fangled GPS/iphone google maps stuff. I wouldn't mind hardcopy foldable maps to keep reference to travels etc.

    Ideally hard wearing, packable, detailed...

I know that Buffalo Bill has a few but i dont know the brand.

Anyone know of any they'd recommend?

  • Ordnance Survey Explorer Series.

Foldable, strong covers, contours and everything!

  • Also, when buying them don't do it through the OS site. Go there to find out which map you want but then purchase the map on ebay or amazon second hand.

I've picked up 7 recently for a ride I'm planning and the most I've paid is £4 plus p&p.

  • hmmm looks like i might need 13 maps...not cool.

  • Sounds like quite a ride!

  • ferris and me were using this shitty roads map... good but a bit vague.

  • yeah, os are def the most detailed, though you have to carry quite a few for longer rides.

and they show public footpaths and almost every public/historic site, which are great for free camping.

  • Yeah. It's also nice to know the elevation, which you don't get with a road map.

You could always plan the route meticulously with bikely, use the elevation profile there, and then just write up route notes on a small laminated card to carry on the ride.

  • nah... doesnt lead to funny little wonderings off course.

  • so much more fun to pick your route as you go along!

'oh that looks like a nice road, let's see where it goes'

  • yeah that towns called 'bagoffreetits' lets go there.

  • Sounds like you don't need maps after all!

  • just got a text back from bill hes all about the OS 1:50000 wayfarers... worth a check out

  • i think he means the landranger maps theyre 1:50000

  • yeah the landranger ones? they do waterproof versions

  • still fucking 7 maps. hmm

i need to look at them i think stamfords here i go.

    actually 7 maps is fine.

  • Totally off topic but I love the fact that shins posted this thread in 'Rides & Races', yet only poloistas have replied.

    Polo love ftw

  • This is actually a fake thread set up purely to make our non-polo bikes feel better about not seeing any miles.

  • ha ha suckers! 1st of april init... i aint going no where!!!

  • loser

  • hoser... no im not joking i am actually looking for maps... i've just contacted a ebay seller thanks for the tip off tom-mosquito
