I went past Evans on the way home, about 20 past 5, looked for a bike locked up outside but no... did you take it inside? Or had you not arrived yet?

mastershredder - must have seen you on your way home earlier... I was entering the home straight as i ran past you. Thought I'd just throw my arm in the air and attempt a yell.
Was pretty fucked. Just putting in the last few big runs before the marathon. -

ran past? i saw a dude running across the street in the opposite direction, that u? if not I didnt see you, if it was hello, yeah you looked well knackered.
edit: and good luck with your marathon!

Hi, a favour to ask of you lot.
If you go in Evans, could you please ask for me by name?
I think the managers stuck me at the bottom of the pecking order on the roster.
Thanks.
Shamim.

I worked like mad getting that shop ready but now they have left me by the wayside.
-
• #14
whats the deal Shamim?
-
• #15
yo DFP
I wouldn't say too much on here in case someone else who works there reads it. Especially since a few people use your real name on here. I'm not saying you'll get in trouble or anything, but still... best to be cautious innit

Good call Mesenjah - very good call.
Nuff said. -

Well if I get back in the job, which should happen. Id be happy to spend a good deal of time serving you lot.

Allegiances will be torn- who do we go to for bike stuff - dfp or dws? This could be the end of cycling in Birmingham as we know it.
-

Oh I didn't know there was an evans in birmingham until I read this thread. It's downstairs in Up And Running? I swear I was in there the other week and saw no mention of it.

I say stick to OYB. Dans made a real effort to get us the current offerings - and i hope he'll continue to serve us all with his awesomenessification....... lets hope more fixed product will be available?
I have no problem buying stuff from Evans, but i'd rather put some money into my very, very local bike shop. (Evans is merely a very local bike shop). Good luck to them - i think Cyclesurgery may be hit harder.

Im not trying to pull people either way, Ive always popped in to OYB since it opened and enjoyed good service (and a few freebies) off the various sound people who have worked there.
Evans is a very different shop. But with many of its own benefits, such as a big store with lots of stuff, bike fitting, test rides and such.
If youve ever been on the bike commute routes into town during rush hour youll know that the number of cyclists is hugeley increasing and there is plenty to 'go round' Plus Evans will be aiming a lot of stuff at Trialthalon type folks who may wander into a running shop.
Anyhow, hopefully theyll give me some more work hours soon!

agreed. support your independent shops. OYB and dont forget Sprocket Cycles too. I'm pretty blessed having Scott Cycles (possibly the oldest bike shop in england-no joke!) near where I live too.
pistaboy, do you work at cyclesurgery or am i confusing you with someone else??

I found this 'bike shop' the other day called park cycles near to me, run by the guy who did the erdington jumble. Turns out it's just him in his garage at his house, but it's actually really well stocked.

just to toot our own horn here - we at oyb also have 'lots of stuff' and access to even more stuff, and offer test rides. we don't (as yet) have bike-fitting equipment, but it's something we're looking at. we are all experienced at sizing people up however, and are keen to assist in swapping stems, cutting bars/steerers, explaining adjustments etc.
bham riders!
the day is BEAUTIFUL. I will be around town from 5pm. anyone wanna meet for a cruise (or a car park session)?
I'm going to check out the new evans store, so meet there around 5.30pm-6pm?
did i mention the day is BEAUTIFUL?
