i have nearly been taken out 5 times by idiots turning/driving on phones. i think you should get money for taking a pic on your phone and sending it in to a police type line.

When I used to work in Westminster I used to knock on the windows of cars at traffic lights if the drivers were on the phone and flash my ID at them. Always worked at getting them to hang up. I didn't even work for the police.
I reckon you should do it. Although sod all is likely to happen, in the event that the driver gets hauled up for a serious incident, I think new regulations mean these reports can be called into consideration.

i almost hit a curb whilst swerving to avoid a woman on the phone in a BMW 4x4 type thing th other day. she had kids in the back too.
i had words with her at the lights, as her window was open, she just laughed at me an carried on chatting. so i told her she wouldn't be laughing wjen she has a crash and kills her kids.... then her attitude changed and she started having a go at me. so rode to the front of the traffic at the lights, and pulled up next to a police car.
told them the score, and one of them stuck his head out the window and saw she was still chatting away, so out they got, and i rode off as they were walking over to her car, with her looking very red-faced.
i laughed.
she deserved it. -

Maybe time to knock up a fake ID badge to flash at people again. Anyone know where I can get some police warrant card style leather wallets.
Tell people that they're nicked, take down their details and then go and wrap their car in WAC stickers overnight.

Well done Skully
Impersonating a police officer? Not a good idea me thinks.

Good I don't feel like such a prick now. Thanks. Please do what I did! Report them to their employers. If they respond badly then go to the pigs.
I just watched the Eilidh video posted a week ago. This has galvanised me in feeling OK about this.
Let's all report them, please. We can change things together!

Travelling from home to work and back again each day it seems to be that its mostly drivers of expensive cars that are the worst offenders. I wonder if this is to do with the minor cash penalty for getting caught or some arogance towards other road users as they have paid so much for their cars? I have also noticed that drivers of cheaper vehicles tend to be law abidding and have hands free kits of one sort or another.

yes report to employers - you can also download an incident report from the police and report them that way

Naturally the more disposable income you have, the less you are going to be concerned about a fine from the Police.
If you can just about afford to run a car then you've got to be pretty stupid to do something that's going to land you a fine you can't afford. Saying that, there are clearly lots of stupid people out there.

I'm fairly chilled, but this is one thing that really f#cks me off - tossers turning a corner with one hand on the wheel while laughing on the phone to their mates. They'll get theirs...

I think in at least one scandinavian I think country fines are a % of income.

What's that website where you can find out the make and model of a car from the number plate?
Good work, Skully.

That's certainly the case in Finland (which isn't officially a Scandanavian country). Famously a Nokia executive was done for speeding a few years back and received a fine in excess of €100k, due to him having sold lots of his stock options that year.

I had quite a heated discussion with a guy last week as we drove/rode along Finchley Rd. He was sitting in his Porsche chatting on his Blackberry, as i rode past I called out ' get a hands free kit'. He caught me up a bit further up the road , opened his window and told me to ' mind my own business'. I told him to ' buy a hands free kit' as he could afford it. We went on repeating both sentences for about a hundred yards until we went seperate ways at the next lights. All very civilised, neither of us swearing, but he was getting more aggresive each time he repeated himself, another 50 yards and I'm sure he would have called me a c*nt.

don't drivers get points on their license for on the handset?
-

Yes. And Commercial vehicles should get a whopping fine, 2k I think.

I feel like standing at a busy road junction one weekend and just photographing drivers using their mobiles whilst driving. And making it obvious whats happening, include their registration number in the photo too. Then send the photos onto the police.

Every time they get caught they should by a cyclist a mink.
In the last week or so I have reported two commercial vehicle drivers to their employers for using their handsets whilst driving HGVs.
I have got to the stage now where I can't see any other way but for us to apply pressure directly to employers to pressure drivers not to do this. I don't think involving the police is called for unless a driver is spoken to and responds aggressively.
I know I look like a right ffing busybody. But it makes my blood boil to see this happening every single day out there on the roads. Who's gonna tell my four year old son that his daddy's dead cos a delivery driver taking Chicken Kievs of National Importance to Wetherspoons decided to call his bit on the side whilst driving? Not the ffing driver.
If we all did this every time we saw a driver and got the reggo, maybe they'd stop doing this. I am asking you to do the same if you're a nosy sod like me.
Oliver!? What would LCC say about this?
