Stuff like that makes the cost of insurance for everyone else go up. It's a fairly morally bankrupt idea, but each to their own.
[edit] didn't mean that to sound as uptight as it probably did. Do what you want, but be aware that in the case of theft a lot of places want to see police reports etc which bumps up the possible penalties for getting caught.

i'm on orange and every bill ever had has been more than i was expecting.
are you a party-loving text-a-holic? do you need a serious cellphone for your high stakes important business conference calls? or are you more interested in getting hooked-up on the interweb for checking the latest hot info?
shop around.

Im on Virgin media. I pay £10 a month and get 300 txts and 300 mins to any network and landlines. I thought this is quite a good deal if you only use your phone occasionally.

i was thinking it wouldn't be a bad idea to get myself a replacement before the contact's over...
has anyone had to deal with phone replacement under these circumstances?I had my phone snatched out of my hand by a kid outside my flat last year - I was carrying some bags and couldn't run after him. I called the police when I got into the flat and two plain clothes officers were round in about three minutes, and took me on a tour of some of the dodgiest corners of the neighbourhood looking for him, with no luck.
I would have felt pretty grim if I hadn't REALLY had my phone stolen, put it that way. Anyway, I got a crime incident number and Orange sorted me out with a new phone through their insurance (which is less than a tenner a month, I think).

well i have decided that its immoral to take advantage of the insurance and that i will be either renewing my contract of getting a slightly different (cheaper) version..
i've been quite lucky in regards to muggings...i suppose thats why i have the insurance.my sister has been mugged at least twice since she has lived in london.

The best I've seen for sim-only deals is O2 simplicity. For their tarrifs £25 and up you get a free bolt-on which you can choose between:
Unlimited O2 to O2 calls
Unlimited texts
Unlimited weekend calls
Unlimited landline calls
200 extra anytime minutes
Unlimited webFor me unlimited web is a no brainer here.
What you get for your money text and call wise in addition to the bolt on is:
£25 - 600 minutes - 1000 texts
£30 - 1200 minutes - 1000 textsThey've got £15 and £20 deals which don't come with the free bolt-on so the value isn't really as good. The biggest thing is that there is no contract at all.
Just to clarify. I don't work for O2. I've just been looking at sim-only deals because I'm wanting to get an iPhone, unlock it and get a sim-free plan.

whats the best price for an iphone you have found? -

whats the best price for an iphone you have found?£169 in the O2 shop right now for an 8GB one until 1st of June. It's because there's a new one coming out in the summer but I'm not fussed about having the latest thing Most of the shops are sold out right now but they say that they're getting more deliveries.

umm thats quite cheap...
plan! if i were to drop the price of my contract by 20 pound (i was paying 45pm inc insurance)
i would save 240 pound a year...more then enough to buy an iphone :)
naa still can't justify spending that on a phone. -
• #21
I'd wait for the new one, it'll almost certainly have 3G which will make your unlimited internet actually worthwhile (as a comparison, the standard iphone only has GPRS, so that gets you speeds not much better than old skool 56k modem)

i don't see a problem with making a fake insurance claim. 12 x £10 = £120, more than what it'd cost them to supply you with a new handset. mobile phone insurance is a total rip off.
-
• #23
tell me about it...but if i had lost it/had it stolen i wouldn't be complaining.
-
• #24
Actually the handsets cost a lot more than £120. The prices you get in the shops are subsidised.

Phone up orange on the day after your contract, and say your are thinking of leaving orange. (You have to wait until you are out of contract, the deals changes but you don't want to leave it too long, as you get stiffed with standard rates). And haggle.
Anna just did exactly that.
She got 225 mins 100 texts and new Razr V8 thing for £10/month. If you must insure your phone, shop around. I am sure that I was getting full coverage (inc contract cancellation coverage) for £25/quarter from Carmoan Whorehouse.
my contract with Vodafone (Carphone warehouse) is coming to an end...as well as the initial charges i was also paying 10 pound a month insurance.
the insurence covers theft, loss and accidental damage.
