I cut through one of them in 10 minutes with my angle grinder.
If the locksmith comes out is he going to cut it or do they pick them somehow?(which is a scary thought)
I could probably help you out after 6:30 if you can source power and an extension cord for the grinder. -

sourcing power is tricky. am thinking but nothing immediately springs to mind. cheers for offer.

Maybe look into hiring a petrol saw and get a metal cutting blade - speedy, HSS etc.

Asking the fire brigade is free - that's how my sister got hers sorted. Just nip into a station and be all smiles. If they can help, they'll help.

For the same cost as the locksmith you could buy an 18v grinder and do the job yourself- shocking really as that is probably the cause of many a bike theft throughout London. At least then the forum would know that one is available for future use, seeing as these situations do occur now and again.

Who needs a con-saw (which is what I assume all you strange people are referring to as a petrol grinder) Save a tree and go cordless electric, quiter, cleaner and smaller, do the job just as tastily, have one myself ;)

I have a friend - honest!- who had her bag nicked with her only bike key in it. Which is a problem as her bike is locked up on commercial road. So, what to do? I did a search and someone here got a locksmith to do it for 75 quid. Is this the standard price? Any recommendations?
Cheers

I stupidly lost my keys a while ago, and even more stupidly i had locked my d lock onto the strap of one of my bags because it wouldn't fit in the bag. Its an old lock and had lost the spare key a long while before. there is no way of undoing the strap either so i was wondering if anyone had any boltcutters or could recommend a shop or somewhere that would be willing to do it?
Cheers, Johnny

What D-lock is it? You might be better off angle-grinding it off.

A year or two ago firemen from that station broke their quite expensive hydralic cutters on my mate's lock on OKR. It sheared the blade. Don't be surprised if they say no...

Scissors and a sewing machine?
With the added bonus of making your bag more hip and vintage.
