Try a Sharpie Magnum which is a permanant maker waterproof, easy and simple. Go down to your local Staples etc... Im going to do this with my rear hed track disc that has a machined brake surface.

I definitely wouldn't use any kind of marker pen. the ink will never be the same opaque jet black as the paint. Instead it will have a sheen and a funny colour when it catches the light (especially when applied to bright silver).

Asked the guy who owned this bike how he covered the braking suface up on his hed 3 and he said "i used a Sharpie Magnum on the brake surface of my Hed3.it applied thin, dark, and even. easy to apply, reapply if needed which i never had to do, and easy to remove with acetone"

bump
can anyone else vouch for the ink marker (sharpie magnum or equivalent) on the machined surface of a rim?

I used a paint pen from an art store. Worked pretty well but needed a new coat or two after winter riding.

you still know what sort of pen? you run a brake it?

Yep - I have it right here. It's a Uni Posca Chisel Tip as far as I can make out. I literally went into an art shop at the bottom of Berwick Street and explained what I was trying to paint and they grabbed one off the shelf for me. I never ran a brake on it because it was for a rear Aerospoke which subsequently got killed by yours truly.

Aaaaah geez fella, sorry to hear about you wheel and such!
Thanks Butters! Rear only it is.Unless someone runs a brake on a marker covered machined rim wall?

Posca are chalk markers and will most likely flake off, Sharpie is the way to do this sort of thing.
Not sure how it would affect braking should you wish to do so...

I used a fat Sharpie, do 1 run each side, let it dry and another run.
Hello,
i have these wheels wich are 32 spoke, soldered cross 2 laced wheels on track hubs, but the rims are machined. the rest of the rims are black. i hate this. Could i? (without taking the wheel apart):
a) take the black paint of with that acid shizzel ?
b) Spraypaint that machined surface and (after slighly rouhing it up) the black area, with masking the nipples?
thanks for the advice
