The Mallard. Went faster in 1938 than all trains on the network do today, with the exception of those which are run on High Speed 1 (Eurostar)
Fucking awesome engineering, pity we don't make shit like that anymore.

I would like to go on the maglev in china - does 320mph I think.
I've always wanted to build a train set. Fixated with it since a child. Never had time or space as yet, though. I worry if I do it now, I will have nothing left for the reitirement. :)

:) Train sets are really nice, there's something really relaxing about working on new bits and then sitting back with a beer to enjoy it!! Hopefully I'll build another when I have my own place rather than renting but the Scotsman is at my parents house. Much more relaxing than Scalectric (which I adore too) Scalectric is a team sport and trains are a hobby :)

There is something so relaxed about trains themselves. So graceful when they glide along the rails. They know exactly where they are going; its reassuring to a dithering, fearful human I suppose.

It still has a charm. i walked past the orient express several weeks ago, a real treat and touch of class. the other firm favourite i have is the worlds smallest steam train out Romney & Hythe. its tiny but it has a bar!

I wouldn't know about that...

Right. Is this the guy who was banned then? And why is he back
Does anyone here love trains?
I do, always have. Especially long distance, international and overnight ones. I love the clickidy click, the motion, your own little compartment.
I love the sounds, the power, even the fear as a child of a 125 whizzing past. I always remember it as a kid in the 'swallow' livery.
There is something brilliant about trains - who is with me?
