The Shuffle Game- Practice those passing skills

  • The Shuffle Game - Practice those passing skills

This game was created by UrbanBicyclist and Melbourne hardcourt polo. Original post found on bikepolo.ca.

It addresses the tendancy some new players have to take a swing (or many) at the ball without getting control of it or having the skills to swing at a moving ball successfully.

It's also designed to help address the tendancy new players have to ride with both hands on the bars (jousting style). Riding with both hands on the bars is bad because your stick is out of play. Not to mention the danger of having a mallet head sticking up into an opposing player's face.

    Rules

If you put your mallet hand on your bars anytime, after the charge, it counts as a dab(foot down).

If you shoot the ball the small end of the mallet that counts as a dab.

    Scoring

Each pass to a team mate before a goal increases it's value. In this game you play highest score after 15 mins or to 15 points.

As you pass the ball, you count aloud, when a player from another team touches, they start counting aloud and your count goes back to 1.

A goal is scored by shuffling it through the cones.

    Example

Jack, Jim, and Jeff versus Nancy, Nina, and Nadia.

Jack passes to Jim. Jim calls out "One!", and passes to Jeff. Jeff calls out "Two!". Jeff's pass is intercepted by Nancy who passes to Nina. Nina calls out "One!" and passes to Nadia. Nadia calls out "Two" and shuffles the ball through the cones. Three points were scored. 3-0

After playing like this for a few minutes, your mind starts to readjust... Instead of getting the ball and thinking "where are the goals?" you get the ball and think "where are my team mates"

  • I like it but think it should be simplified. Trying to keep track of how many times a ball has been passed is beyond many poloista's cognitive recognition. We can barely keep score during a game!

  • Rob and I used to play a similiar game amongst ourselves. If we got shuffled together with a good player against 3 not so experienced players we would play one touch pass. Touch the ball and pass as soon as possible until the scoring opportunity showed itself.

  • ray passes to em,
em shouts 1, em dribbles to the goal gabes shouts em pass, ray shouts top of the D.... em shoots.

ps i like it bill im up for giving it a go... might be one of those early afternoon practice times. early at NE.

  • ha! em shouts cunts.
sounds like a good idea, i kinda like the one-touch idea too! maybe more so. :D

  • gabes pass ray? yeh fuckin right!

  • guys.... guys...

  • gabes pass ray? yeh fuckin right!

i'm gonna fucking kick your head in pass the ball to you tonight.

  • So are we giving points for shouting 'cunts' at your own team?

Like it, but I reckon NS have unfair advantage.

  • who are NS?

  • Ha! Horatio, the grammar cop!

  • who are NS?
    No-longer Sustainable.

  • Not Singing anymore

  • no shinscar

  • kinda goes against JiHaD's "greed is good" policy but sounds like a fun game for an early warmup like ray suggested.

  • Ha, JiHaD's 'greed is good' policy is just to prevent us passing so much!
I think we pass pretty well as a team but need to shoot more!!

  • when you go for the 1940's shot and you miss, it looks well 1939.

  • Well Mexico 1939.

  • I like this, I'd like to play.
