Your Brains if you will... Exeter

  • OK in a most out of character fashion i have failed to organise an EPIC treasure hunt in Exeter for my BIN-laws Stag.

I have a country house arranged with clay pigeon shooting in the morning (in full tweed). We are then Hitting Exeter dressed as Old Ladies to carry out a Treasure Hunt/Pub crawl:
And it's here i need help. i got some good ideas but i don't feel what i have is fun enough.

So if any one can think of any Treasure hunt Tasks to carry out dressed as an old lady around Exeter then tell me.

Also any recomendations as to good pubs/bars/clubs would be as welcome

  • I reckon you should set up a quiz lists of pub names around the city centre. Make some easy and some cryptic. In each pub there should be something distinctive for each team to photograph themselves to.

Give points for each pub visted with the highest points to the most cryptic questions.

End pub should be named and central with a late closing time and all teams should turn up, turn over their cameras to score points. Prize for the winning team.

  • Incidentally, there really are very few places in central Exeter you wold expect proper trouble for turning up in drag.

  • Pub golf. Each pub has a par then you asign a certon amount of shots to a drink (three shots for a pint, hole in one for a shot of gin snorted up the nose, that sort of thing). The person around in the least shots wins.

  • Tasks:
Shoplift two tins of Wests salmon.
Ask loudly in a busy pharmacist about HRT.
    Drink Port and Lemon.
Hang about near the post office looking shocked at 'youngsters' particularly the blameless polite ones.
Barge your wheeled trolley thing into poeple in the queue in a bakery, preferably pushing in the queue.
    Attend a Low Church meeting.

    Oh you mean fun things?!

  • Full Contact Social Backlash.

How many hoodies can you beat with a copy of the Daily Mail wrapped around a length of rebar. Extra points if they ordering alcopops.

  • Priscilla Queen Mother of Fore Street.

Each team picks a pub on Fore Street in which to perform an impromptu old lady burlesque show. Points for each minute they last before eviction or getting a dollar bill shoved in their orthopedic socks. Double points if they do it on Fore Street in Heavitree.

    Drink cider from a Lemon.

you forgot buy a house in devon

on a wholly more serious note- Exeter is dull.
but it has a Uni and a cathedral, and so any treasure hunt must in some way include those things.

  • Fancy a pint has a number of pub crawls if you're interested. Not sure if they have Exeter on their website.

  • Enter the cathedral and throw a half-eaten humbug at a member of the clergy.
Push a member of the public in the canal for wanting to see your woo woo.
Hire a car and drive at 2mph through heavitree at rush hour.
    Drink brandy all day.
Tell off a young 'un off in the green for having an ugly/untrustworthy face.
Implement a "it wasn't like this in my day" sign on the A30.
Drink four pints of tea in 2 minutes.
    Urinate in public.
Get a tattoo of Prince Phillip on your thigh.
Take over Mad Megs restaurant and replace it with a successful brothel.

  • Is Mad Megs still there, I thought it had been taken over by a bike shop.

  • It's beneath the bike shop as far as I remember, perfect.

  • Used to be a great little cafe on the top floor there called Dandy Leg Logs.

Spent many an hour there planning world domination.

  • Good point:
    Plan and achieve world domination.

  • Seldom - Whats the Cavern like as a club?

(great ideas BTW i am refining them as i speak.. Skully i wanted stag tips not your weekend diary entry)

  • Full Contact Social Backlash.

How many hoodies can you beat with a copy of the Daily Mail wrapped around a length of rebar. Extra points if they ordering alcopops.

    this is on the list!
Its a yoot or one of them foreigner types

I might also get someone to dress as Tony Martin??

The cavern is pretty good, if a little cosy. I haven't been there in a long time but I hear that they still run some good shows there. As always, it will depend on what you're looking for.

Down Queen St there's a pub opposite the Central station which I think is a decent starting point for any shenaningans. Can't remember the name but think it might be The Angel

  • Nah, head to the Firehouse for your first few, lovely pub... nice "lock in" style owners and (fairly) cheap booze.

(At least it was a couple years back and on my last visit.)

  • Is that The Old Firehouse on New North Street. Good choice. Or The Black Horse on Longbrook Street.

The Hole in the Wall might be a good finishing pub before rolling over to The Cavern.

  • Get the Old Ladies to do a wardrobe change and dress as Exeter Exengers.
