Be careful with getting a Fahgetaboutiut, she may end up well over her luggage allowance with that! Just go to Torc Anchors and buy chain and padlock from there, cheaper and probably better: http://www.torc-anchors.com/
As above, with the current exchange rate it's pretty hard to find anything that is significantly cheaper. Probably easiest to go for smaller American-made parts that will fit in a suitcase, so Chris King or Cane Creek 110 headsets, Thomson stuff, for example.

If I was in america now i would buy nice things you simply can't get here without importing them from there, like stuff from Rivendell or those other fancy dan US shops.

most of the shops i went in don't stock much at all.

Well mail order to you there then, cheaper than shipping costs and import taxes, right?
My girlfriend is going to America in a few weeks - and I need a new Fahgetaboutiut, so that is on her shopping list.
Has anyone come across anything else that is loads cheaper and worth thinking about in the states?
And does anyone know of any good online US bike sites to order shit from?
