  • Ok, so we've all seen that 'gold' plug which was a ludicrously pointless lame publicity stunt. But I just spotted this:

**£1,271.99 in Evans. Not sure what the full RRP is. Is anyone really gonna buy this?

Can you not get a really really nice custom built frame for that?
    **

  • It's titanium isn't it? I am under the impression that ti frame are usually around the grand mark, althought that was merely based on seeing the ti frame in Cavendish Cycles that cost £1,000.

  • I bought three, I use two of them to keep windows propped open.

    You cheap skate.

  • the TiDuster frame makes for a really good XC MTB

  • Titanium, who cares?

You can get a custom built Yamaguchi for the $1700

    Choose...

  • it's titanium... and yes some people will buy it.

i had a go on SuperTeds.... and it is a joy to ride.

and the gold Plug wasn't Charge's publicity stunt... it was an insurance company, Charge just gave them a standard Plug in exchange for free publicity.

get your facts right cunt bag.

or a hand made steel frame for around the £800 mark, I wonder how much would a hand made titanium frame would cost?

  • Roberts do custom 953 for £1100, it sez 'ere: http://www.robertscycles.com/prices.html
    Brian Rourke is £1400
Dave Yates Elite 853 is £870 and he will do 953 (was working on one when I did my course)

Not strictly apples-to-apples, but I know where my money would go.

  • so if a local frame builder build you a ti frame, I assumed it would cost around the £2,000 mark.

  • Another golden thread. A++++++++rated.

  • why is everyone hating on charge? douchebags

  • Cos Nick Larson is a cunt!

  • custom ti burls for £900

    http://burls.co.uk/prices.htm

  • It's been in the pipeline for utterly ages. It's a nice looking frame, and probably sweet to ride, but overpriced considering the price of the custom jobs above.
Pity really, if it was cheaper it'd be lish.

  • or a 'track specific', 'fluted' seattube bob jackson x BLB for around the £800 mark, I wonder how much a hand made titanium frame would cost?

    fixed

  • only a fucktard culture victim would buy one of those or an expensive Japanese copy of an english trackbike.
custom frame made in the U.K. FTW

  • so if a local frame builder build you a ti frame, I assumed it would cost around the £2,000 mark.

It depends. I don't know of any UK frame builder building in titanium. You are then limited to overseas builders with a UK importer or you have to go direct to the manufacturer. Seven, based in the US, build their ti frames on a custom basis and they start at around £3k.

I've a De Rosa that was custom made and it cost £3k as a complete bike in 1999. It's still going strong and, when clean, looks as good as new.

i'd chhose that over a ti plug any day of the week.

  • Just spotted their 'full bike' example:

    Gorgeous isnt it?

  • Er. No.

The forks are ugly as sin.

  • And I just don't get the slack head-angles.

  • And I just don't get the slack head-angles.

Maybe they used the geometry of a tourer by mistake? Can't see where the mudguards and panniers would go though?

  • all charges are a little but 'droopy'. I've not ridden one though and would be interested to see how their geometry feels.
