They're great. Buy them
-
• #3
Sorry, what was the question?
-
• #4
Oh right, buy the normal ones. I don't like the coated ones.. the braking surface doesn't appear to work well for um braking. Other people have told me different but I'm going with the mechanic's opinion.

ha, that cracks me up.
i am just confused, most other parts get more expensive as they get lighter for my road bike, all three rims weigh the same?!thanks for the advice.

the CD grey ones are fine, the anodising wears off from the braking surface quite quickly.
the ceramic ones aren't cheap but obviously last a lot longer. -
• #7
They last a lot longer but the braking is shit.
-
• #8
i loved the colour of my cds.
I'll be ordering them again when i have a bike.

So succinct, I think there should be a 'What does our resident Aussie say?' section after every bike product review, I'm sure it'd make things easier.
Unipack - "It's shit mate"
Phil Woods hubs - "Fuckin' sweet"
Valve caps - "Stick 'em up ya arse" -

Hi Chris
I have a pair of track wheels I'm thinking of selling that might suit you - Record High Flange Track Hubs on Mavic Open Pro CD ceramic rims.
they've never been ridden on the road, they were used for track racing at Manchester but still in really good nick. I got them for a new track frame but I've decided to focus on upgrading my road bike for now, so they are surplus to requirements.
let me know if you are interested and I'll post pics from home later.
thanks
George

i've got ceramics on my track bike
they work nicely when used in conjunction with dura ace pads
no problems with stopping thats for sure
mainly bought them as they don't have a silver braking surface and looked nice but 30 - 40 quid extra might be a bit steep
they are bombproof though -
• #13
obama uses them on his armourplated bike
-
• #14
these will be for my racing bike.
sorry - just realised this probably means your geared bike (?) if so please ignore my offer of track wheels above, doh. must remember to read threads properly before responding.

yeah for my bike with gears. they sound like nice wheels though!
cheers for all the advice guys.

I'd be interested in the open pro ceramics with record h/f hubs if they are still available? My email is will.chipchase@btopenworld.com Many thanks :)

Hey,
Has anyone got a pair of open pro ceramic rims for sale? Or better a geared wheelset?
And am i right that using brakes WILL wear off the grey coating on the CD version?
Cheers,

brakes will wear off the colour on the CD grey version.
-
• #20
The wear is a bit patchy as it occurs and doesn't look great.
-
• #21
If you are using brakes they are superb rims. I wouldn't worry about the colour wearing off.
-
• #22
I've got the grey ones on my road bike. The brakes have worn most of the grey off
Great rims though. -

Everyone I know who uses Open Pros swears by them, myself included. A much nicer ride than the various deep section rims ubiquitous amongst fixie-skidders. I think I'll be putting them on my new bike as well. Tow thumbs up.

+1. I've been riding mine for a few weeks now and love them. Everything everyone says about them absorbing bumps and road buzz is so true - way more so than I imagined. The difference between my old wheels and new ones is huge and I think these rims have a lot to do with that.

I've been working on Open Pros for years and they are excellent for the money.Tough and they stay true longer than more expensive wheels.Any half decent courier uses them.
these will be for my racing bike. i am going to get some wheels built with record hubs and open pro rims. but a question: which one of the open pro do i go for?
regular
CD
or ceramic. are the ceramic worth the extra cash?
these will not be ridden often by the way.
and before you ask my weight is not an issue etc with a lightweight wheel build, i dont weigh much!
thankyou
