  • no really! this is an off topic (OT) thread about off topics. this place could do with some. things have gone a bit dry.

    so who likes Off Topics??

    let the discussion begin!

  • Me.

  • Me.

me too! talking bike bits all the time can get dare i say, dull (yeah bring it on...) especially if u have A bike, ride A bike and have no real obsession over bits (like myself).

  • I do have that obsession over bits, just no money to back it up.

  • I have the money, just no obsession....kidding.

so what shall birmingham's 1st ever off topic* be about??

life, music, travel, other interests, etc??? the possibilities are ENDLESS.

    (*not including this one)

  • Does it have to be specifically relevant to people in birmingham?

  • hell no, go crazy!

  • Im getting into a lot of sporty stuff this year, if anyone wants to play tennis, football, go for a run, skateboard, climbing, snowboarding arm wrestle etc - hit me up.

Also 'bikewise' I know a great cabin thats rentable in coed brennin (spelling?) if anyone wants to try a little mtb, a bunch of us could go.

  • Beer

    Wine

    Food

    Sport

    Art

    erm

    The Environment

  • I like beer and wine and gin and vodka. I don't like baileys, too sweet.

  • Politics - I have no idea who I'm gonna vote for when I turn 18. I'd vote lib dem if they were led by Vince Cable, Nick Clegg is a tit. I want a party which is socialist in it's views on the economy, ie strong regulation and redistribution of wealth, but which has a laissez-faire attitude towards everything else, particularly civil liberties.

    Opinions Please.

  • i also like beer: actually, ale.

ben - i doubt you'll be able to vote for anyone representing that precise combination, although it sounds like a good one. get prepared to grow increasingly disillusioned or get used to spoiling the ballot. i've done it a few times in order to convince myself i'm not just apathetic, that i actually do give a shit, but that no party currently deserves my vote.

i like to go mountain biking and am especially interested in finding someone moderately fit/experienced who would like to do daytrips to welsh trail centres during the week. not very likely, but there we go. i have a car, but the petrol cost on your own is not realistic.

i sometimes think it would be a good idea to jon creation climbing wall. anyone else?

  • sometimes climbing seems fun and a good way to excersise but it looks well pricey.
    labour ftw!

  • I'm a super keen climber, and am more than happy to 'show you the ropes' (sorry couldn't resist the pun), as it's quite expensive to have an instructor to teach you how to belay etc. Hiring shoes/ harness is usually quid or two each, and off-peak climbing bout a fiver, so it is expensive, but if you buy your own gear (if you climb regularly) it's not too bad.

  • I haven't climbed or abseiled since I was a yout at secondary school. It's a lot of fun, and I wish it was more widespread and popular. Then again, I wish a lot of things were more widespread and popular. For example cycling.

  • I suck at all sports , but I remembered they are all a lot of fun so am throwing myself into things bigtime.

Ive only climbed a couple times as part of youth groups & that sorta thing. Mostly got stuck in places - Have uncontrollable vertigo, still want to do it though.

  • I found some black knickers on the radiator, I was confused for a while but then it all came back.

  • Steinhauser from Aldi is disgusting

  • A wedge of Brie, a pound of cherry tomatoes and a 3ft baguette costs £2.75 and is very nice and filling but I couldn't eat it every day

  • I had the bestest double espresso today from the cafeteria in a tower block, it was very smooth and creamy and barely bitter, and complex-ish. It's a shame that espressos are so short and that some 'proper' cafes cannot always produce such awesomeness.

  • rain has destroyed my soul

  • vince cable has the best pornstar name

  • I have a penchant for smashing things up.

  • Me too, which is why there's been fragments of a 14" iBook G4 in my drawer for the last 5 yearz

I worked the most boring job ever to save up for that :(

  • This is a bit off topic for an off topic thread, but once upon a time I got ready to go to Derby Storm skatepark. I packed my bag with shin pads, knee pads, tools, a drink and some sandwhiches. Then I left the house to go to the train station. Without my bike.
