My camily had the same tin opener for pretty much my entire childhood! They're so basic, I just find it hard to believe you've had issues finding one. And they're so cheap that you can afford to try a few to find one you like. And I'm notoriously cheap, so if even I would consider that course of action it can't be that bad.

unfortunately they leave jagged edges and cost a fortune but they will last for ever
Do any of you ultra sophisticated city dwellers have a recommendation for a can opener that:
a) opens cans without shredding the edge into a saw tooth finger muching mutha,
b) does not cost a flipping fortune,
c) lasts longer than a few weeks?
