I'm going to put one there soon in the evening on the way home, it's a decent D-lock from my girlfriend, she already got a nice Evo Mini lock so might as well.

It's a shame we cannot weld them onto the street furniture, i.e. lamposts.
I'll have a look at home- might well have a couple of old D-locks in a box that can be used for this.

I've just put a lock on the Southampton Road one Sheldon Brown style, the railing seemed weak thought.
it's a semi-decent Abus lock that my missus brought for about 35 quid, look think but I hope it does the job.

I saw the one on Soton Row this morning. Good job.

Thanks Ed, it was your idea which prompted this thread.

I can't make it to one of the bikes but I'll bring a lock to Wests Pip.

Should this be broadcast to other cycling forums?
This is all sterling work.

I have a lock with only a single key... perfect fodder.
I'll bring it to westies.
One is a D-lock with one key.
The other is a killer abus chain, but no padlock. So if you have a padlock you have another. -

I'll bring a D-Lock to Westies as well

Artist previously known as VB (APKAVB) I got a spare padlock -

I'd forgotten that the one on St John Street is locked to a lamp-post, so my D lock is no good, sorry... anyone got a spare cable for that one?

not necessary, you can use the D-lock to lock the wheel and the frame together.

True but it's not a great deterrent... if someone's going to nick the whole thing they're probably not going to ride off with it. But yeah, I'll do that if no-one has anything better

I've got a couple of old D locks (1990s Trelock titan & ABUS granit) with dodgy keys i.e. can be shut locked but cant trust the keys after that - any use ?

Massimo Pradel died on the 9th August 2008. He was 23 years old.
If anyone has additional locks, please do attach them to the existing bike.
Thank you. -

i see. it looks new and unweathered, if i get hold of any cheap d-locks i will use it.

Brilliant work Pip, et al. for getting these ghost bikes out.
This one at the jucntion of Streatham Hill ,Brixton Hill and /Christchurch Road.
I remember being chilled to the core when I saw the aftermath of this incident one night (last September?). **The female who died was Kate Charles, she was 41 years old and had 1 daughter. She was killed by a driver in a Tesco lorry.
**
Glad to say during the course of taking just a few photos that five cyclists and two pedestrians stopped to ask so I put on my 'LFGSS education officer hat' and there was praise all around for the messages the bikes put out. Bike looks perfect, someone has added flowers and the quote is clear to read. Will try to get another lock on it.couple more at

Ed and James hit onto a good idea to keep the ghost bikes out there for a little longer.
I could only get 5mm chains and semi decent padlocks. they deter but are breakable (they are not toughened steel) so.....
If you do have any locks that are not in use it would be great if you help secure a ghost bike that is near by or on your commute.
It would be a nice gesture from one cyclsits to another and it wold also deter those pesky scrotes
Thanks
Pip
