Can you build a wheel?
-
• #4
Q. Are these wheels any good?
A. No.
-
• #5
the only thing decent are the hubs, you might as well spend the same money on decent rims, same hubs, spokes, nipple and the overall cost will probably be the same if you can build a wheels.

dead wrong.
I'm drunk and I know better then you. 5am posting FTW.
-
• #7
ha, and the spelling is dead on!
-
• #8
Chris is dead on - the hubs are the lowest quality component in that build.
You'll probably get hit for import duty @ 15% plus VAT on top for the full price and the import duty and the courier might charge a handling fee (of £10). It's not worth it.

why are the deep v's difficult to get anyway?
-
• #10
They are good if you want to train with extra weight! I had a pair of these last year and they actually weighed 2.5KG. Yes, that is for the two wheels only. I didn't know wheels could be so heavy and the bad part is the weight is in the rim and it feels like it.
Sold them the following week at a very small loss on eBay (probably because no risk of import duty as I had already taken that risk and got away with it)

what? the system EX/SJS/etc. hubs? but they're generally the best budget hubs money can buy thought, not the best but nowt wrong with them.

quality wise.

frankly, the System EX hubs are fairly decent for the money, I can't afford to spend more than 20 quid on a hubs after my rear wheel got hit by a van, so I opt for System EX, obviously changed the nuts o them because they're shit to start with but an otherwise decent hubs for those who need to build a budget wheel, they're solid hubs.
but they're not shit, I seen 100 miles a week with them for the past 12 months and it's still holding up well.

have any of you guys even ridden the halo hubs?
-
• #22
Definitely a lot of hub snobbery goes on here. As long as the hubs don't actually break what is so bad about them. The bearings can easily be swapped out for bearings that are the equivalent quality of any other hub that uses cartridge bearing at a pretty low cost.
What else is there to a hub that makes is so good/actually noticeable when riding?
-

I've had a couple of those System EX/zenith hubs in pieces recently for respacing.
Well machined with tight tolerances, good threads. Lock ring is a little ropey but other than that I honestly can't see a problem.

Price, obviously.

Hub snobbery is the defining type of snobbery in the fixed wheel scene. It is the essence of riding fixed, so it makes sense (as much as snobbery can).
I am finding it hard getting a pair of deep v's what is your opinion on these please.
