yes.
and no.psoriasis never goes away. it's always lurking in the background waiting for something to start it up again.
i went to guys and st thomas, you can get light treatment there. you have to fight for it like, get a refferal from your doctor. then go to the dermatology clinic. then INSIST that you want light therapy.
stay away from the vile teas, you don't know what's in there. it's a disease of the immune system. smerking and drinking aren't great, but then the way incidences happen is that something bothers your system then 6-8 weeks a patch appears.
the only way i've ever cleared mine up (and i was covered at one point) was UV treatment when i lived in the states. i'm now finishing my anti malarials and i'm having new patches appear. it's back on the sunbeds for me. you have to balance skin cancer (nothing knackers replicating DNA better than a shot of UV at ~300 nm TT dimers FTW) vs fuck me i'm shedding skin everywhere and i look a mess.

I got some on my hand a few years ago from some woodland plant that gave me a rash. Ever since then I get reoccuring flaky, cracked sore and sometimes bleeding skin on that hand every few months.
Im not sure what triggers it but I do know its aggravated by all commerical shaving gels/moisturisers etc.

I don't think you can get it from plants!! Isn't it an auto-immune disease? No one knows what causes it do they? I could be wrong! I haven't looked it up..... just surfing and typing!

+1 For light treatment, I had psoriasis really bad when I was 17 and had light treatment which cleared me right up and gave me a lovely tan all through the winter (except for some lovely panda eyes from the goggles). My psoriasis did come back within about 3 months but it's never been as bad as it used to be. If you can get light treatment definately go for it.
I've found that alcohol doesn't really effect it unless I go mental and even then it's not too bad. I went through a whole load of remedys when I was younger like an Aloe Vera tonic which was foul, salt baths which I think made a difference and using goats milk instead of cows, I just live with it now but it's no where near as bad as other people's I've seen. I occassionaly rub on some moisturiser if it really flares up and it's something for me to pick at when I'm bored.

baby oil ftw.
get on top of it, because, psoriatic arthritis is not funny. neither is crumbly nails.
drop the teas and get up on the UV.

i had it really bad on my scalp for a while. i combated it with vitamin-e suppliments everyday, and this charcoal based shampoo called polytar. i use it every other day and ive never had a problem scince. i still have a bit in the tops of my sideburns around my temple, but this normally goes when ive seen a bit of good weather.
swimming in the sea helps to, but for some reason washing in salt water at home didnt for me.

baby oil ftw.
explains why i have never had it.. giggidy giggidy
well saying that i had craddle cap which is the kids version. so i am told. and Polytar clears it up, but i not getting a sweaty head, sun and keeping your hair clean tends to do the trick
But why do we need the silent p.... really...

My sister works in kitchens and got the same due to the aggressive chemicals used to remove fat and grease.
I picked up some 99.999% alovera hand cream and that did the trick. its magic stuff. it cleared my sun burn in days, i kid you not i was like a fucking red M&M.
By the time i got out the shower I was convinced i'd spend the rest of my life walking around like a live Gunther von hagens piece!

I went to the doctors, they gave me a cream and I rubbed it on all three patches for around three months - twice a day - and it vanished. Hasn't come back since. Although I get slight bumps on my arms every now and again.

Mine is aggravated by stress, particularly emotional
Had a shit time recently so flaring up nicely on my face and in other areas, never helped by people then asking - whats that on your face!
Moisturiser helps soften it so it stops flaking so publicly
Coal tar remedies do work but you then need to avoid the sun as it makes you particularly UV sensitive
One time when in NZ I had not taken any creams and visited a pharmacy. The pharmacist was a fellow sufferer and had written medical papers on the subject. He sold me a lotion that had an extract of banana and coal tar, which worked really well. However could not buy it here in the UK and have now forgotten its name.
Another problem with coal tar applications is they leave brown stains - so not good on the face or under light coloured clothing.
Use light creams, I find if I sweat under psoriasis it aggravates it much more, especially if there is a thick cream stopping the sweat moving away from my skin.
I dont think there is a cure, just the symptoms going into remission.

That's more likely to be Dermatitis, psoriasis occurs because skin cells replicate far too quickly

my boss in Portugal had it. She stopped it going to a place in the dead sea [the salty one]. i think that many sufferers go there.

So if anyone paid attention to me they would have lots more soft skin... Mmmm
So the skin grows more and dies quickerflaking and is not dried un-naturally and starts to crack... interesting. i am off to inspect myself

bang. there you go.
i do recommend that everyone goes along to the dermatology clinic at st thomas'. and gives blood to their study. eventually genetics will come to play and at least they can mark out/work out genes that are involved/up regulated/down regulated.
i have mine on my scalp. i once had someone at phonica staring at my head. i explained it was psoriasis. they thought i'd dyed my hair in leopard type spots. "fierce".

I hadn't had any symptoms for 14 years & it flared up again this winter. I got it really bad on the palms of my hand & the soles of my feet.
Had about 60 % body coverage but some 10/15% coal tar sorted it quite quickly, however i've loads of pigment scars (ie. tanned bits are now bleached & white bits are now brown)
UV or sunshine works great for me too. Hopefully once it's all cleared up it'll stay in remission for another 14 years.
I'm also sure Psoriasis is one of the conditions that excludes you from military services as it's often stress induced & a disability if it breaks out badly on the front lines.

Mine was caused by some Giant Hogweed im 90% sure, I was out picking nettles and I saw some about.
It can actually fuck with your DNA from what I have read, I think thats what happened to me seeing as its reoccuring but can completely dissapear overnight only to re-emerge with ferocity months later. It must be part of my DNA now right?
Ive tried all sorts on it, even pure Aloe Sap cut straight out of the plant. But nothing helps, I found its best to completely ignore it. I might try this UV thing though if it gets bad.

Just found out light/UV will make it a lot worse in my case.

I'd definitely recommend trying to give up smoking VanUden, it might help quite a bit. There quite a few medications to try, and as stated already, PUVA can work really well for some people.

I find the best remedy is to wrap the effected area with a few pages of the bible that have been soaked in water from Lourdes.
- also untethered drinking takes the edge of it.

thats dry skin DFP...
psoriasis is far more serious and spreads and does not go away on it's own, it won't kill you but it sure as hell makes u suffer if you don't deal with it properly.
somehow I'm the only member of my family that doesn't have psoriasis,
my sister has it bad,
and knows herself what soaps, shampoos and so on that aggravate it,
and what ones to use that help.
She also uses a combination of steroidal creams daily, along with exposure to U.V radiation when flare ups occur.
a holiday in the sun does her wonders.
But from my experience seeing others with the condition, you' have to manage it as you go along. -

yes.
you're fucked.many is the reported case of hogweed plants acting like retroviruses.

Some good responses here.
@Spencer, what are you basing your opnion on for stopping smoking. Not doubting you just curious. Cheers.
@Tynan, I heard that consuming kittens' livers wrapped in newspaper (Daily Mail ftw) is the only true cure - sanctioned by The Pope himself.

My uncle has it quite bad, but whenever he went on holiday to a hot country it always cleared up quite a bit, UV treatment seems to be one of the most effective options as people have said.

you tried homeopathic remedies? they work for everything in my experience

Similar to the above. Fresh air/daylight, stress management; but also trying to reduce processed sugar in diet, and drinking plenty of water - and trying not to rub/pick at it.
When I went to Iceland, the naturally sulphurous water (stinks of eggs when you run a bath) seemed to work wonders. Never bothered trying to find out if I could get sulphurous compound thingamejigs to put in the bath back in the UK...
Bugger. I was off the sauce and drinking vile Chinese tea for about 8 months of last year, and although the Psoriasis 'almost' went it didn't completely. It now looks like it's coming back, which is a complete cnut. So, I'll be back on the tea and off the pop again for a while to see if I can finally get it completely out of my system. Has anyone any useful experience of dealing with Psoriasis?
I'm also thinking I might have to stop the cigs (I believe there has been some link drawn between smoking and Psoriasis as there has with alcohol and Psoriasis). Plus try and manage stress levels better as this is also said to be a factor.
Pretty pissed off at the moment, could be worse though.
