if I could only have one bike I would have......not this one I would stick with my xc hard tail but these are very good bikes and suitable for having a go at every thing, would you ride a mtb on a track? how about a TT bike thought the woods?

the graphic is as wank as Don Walker's graphic, but otherwise an excellent bike, methink it's time to make a cyclocross bike, it does look fun.

Fixed cross bike for an even bigger win. Skidding around off road is great fun (used to do it on a Steamroller)

look like shit, heavy and common. if that sort of thing matters to you
but with a cheap carbon fork on the front you've got one of the best bang-for-buck work bikes out there.

Fugly and the name sounds like a dodgy spanish western and it has V brake fittings. be better with disks

I'd love a ss xc bike, and that looks hefty enough to take some abuse. Ain't feeling the graphics or colour though, unless the point is to get your crosser as dirty looking as possible. I'd look like a white landrover in Chelsea if it wasn't filthy.
Unless of course you clean your bike, but balls to that.

Off On One = 90's Hollyoaks late night special. I can't make the distinction.

Like the pompino though. Would think about getting one if my winter bike died.

I think they would be an overkill, it's a mixture of road and cross, a good set of cantilevers of v brakes would be more than enough. I think they are great bikes, personally I don't think they look that bad either.

I always liked these.

now i hate them more

Was thinking about getting one myself. They look alright, can stick mudguards on there, V's/Canti's are enough to stop you quick. Prefer the royal blue colour they were sporting last year.

It's the seat stays that i can't like. they just don't look right to me

Now in Hipster White!
I'm glad they waited till the snow was gone before releasing this. I mean, talk about camouflage......
White people on white bikes in the snow. Even pigeons would fly into you, not knowing you are there.
Now, black people on stealth bikes, at night..........doesn't happen.
;)

I think the word utilitarian was invented to describe the Pompino. Solid looking bikes though.

i agree andy, but I have seen a fair few of these that have been built up very nicely.

Yep it is quite brutal. I think that's the Mbt design side coming through.

+1
They give huge mud clearance for off road use so are very practical, but they still look wrong. Sorry. I'd rather own a Cross Check (and did but sold it when I bought my Singular Peregrine).

seems a real shame to have released the "2009 pompino" without adding dics tabs, the obvious progression surely? All they've done is change the colour....

Why is it an obvious progression? It would seem excessive by a long way for me and clutter the frame. It's only a single speed road / cross bike (99% of people would use it as a road bike I would bet) so it will not be hurtling down massive hills or have a massive load that needs to be bought to a stop.
Re just changing the colour. It's how on one works in some sense. They have a frame design, get a run made, listen to feed back maybe have a few ideas to tweak themselfs add that to the next run of frames, new run new colour to help differentiate. They are clearly happy with the design so just swapped the colour for the new run.

Why? As mentioned above it is a road/dirt path/ cyclocross bike NOT a mountain bike, so a good set of V-brakes or cantis is more than enough. If you add disc tabs the drop outs would have to be a lot more complicated and you would need additional guides for rear hydro cables. If you want a mountian bike then get a 456, if you wanted something different get a Pompino.

What I really want is £1200 to drop on one of these bad boys, now this is some real bike sex.
