  • In a couple of years I intend to do the DD on one of these

  • The Jackson will be with me till I die, I'm loving the Moser at the moment and would really like to get the Holdsworth running properly.
For me, it's about space. I can probably only have 3 bikes at a time.
Fiddy says I can store my tandem in his cellar if I need to.

  • fixed isn't just for christmas, its for life.

  • There was a diagram in the News of the world today about how many layoff there have been in the car industry over the last few months... something like 5000+

Oliver Schick posted today in that thread on London framebuilders about how grassroots cycling business culture is set for a resurgence.. small workshops supplying locally made frames for informed consumers. Back to the old school as it were.

I can only hope that things do go backwards for the cycling industry.

Cycling is clearly becoming more popular in London, and I believe that peripheral industries will grow a lot.

How many companies in the UK are making custom carbon fibre gubbins, bodykits, and mods for cars? Must be hundreds...

Imagine when the tide has turned... we could choose from 20 types of handmade saddles, dozens of sprayshops willing to paint exactly to your spec. for less than is costs now. Second hand bike supermarkets with thousands of bikes all maintained and ready to ride off the forecourt. OK, maybe not the last one...

    yes - future's bright.

  • i'll build another one, when this one has been run into the ground/stolen .

  • ..is in your hands.

  • I've got the bug... as long as I can afford it and have the space I'd like to have a current project... then again... at this rate I honestly don't think you ever finish a bike and if you do then congratulations ;) It's my recovered from abandon GT next :D

  • One day... we shall ALL have Chub Hubs!

  • in that case NO!

  • In a couple of years I intend to do the DD on one of these

we have a company here in Cambridge that lends out these sort of bikes to students.
but much nicer looking, with brooks saddles etc.

those things are super spinnnnyyy, and fixed i suppose?
can it do skids is the main question...

  • I can see myself getting way more into the tricks side of things, and building a second heavier duty full on tricks based fixed bike, of which the parts are already starting to accumulate....... Outside of that probably not much else other than just general riding for fun and transport purposes

  • i can't wait to pit a new bike together. first i have to repair my frame though :(

    no money though.

  • I have always been in to bikes in one form or another, I cant see that changing. Maybe I will get board of fixed one day but as long as my body allows it I will always be into bikes.

  • In the near future i'm going to be leaving London and want to get back into mountain biking. Next bike is going to be a custom titanium 29er, Blacksheep, Moots or Lynsky. Fuck the credit crunch and responsible spending I want a wicked bike to smash trails on.
Apart from that I'm looking forward to getting my other bikes out of storage in Australia and having a house big enough for a fleet of bikes and a proper workshop to tinker in.

  • I expect to be riding for the rest of my life, not even considering a drivers licence or public transport for future transport needs.

you have your priorities bang on :)

  • My future is all in the past.

  • I like the progression of riding/technology/styles. I used to ride BMX, then Road bikes, then MTB and now fixed. I dont see myself going back to SS or gears for a while as I love what I'm riding right now. I only have 2 bikes at the mo, my Alpha Bareknuckle and my Beta brakeless pub/tricks bike. I love them equally and ride them both as they both have different & similar qualities.

    The futures Bikes, not Orange!

  • i think if you truly have a passion for something....that is the future.

  • Timely post...

After my bike got trashed a couple of weeks ago and after years of riding single speed/ fixed, I decided to build up a spare parts fixed for daily duties and graduate to gears to replace the nice ride.

Then the quiet nagging started in the back of my mind - silky smooth silver hubs, supertype seatpost, no noise, straight carbon forks, spinning out on hills, 631...there is someting about fixed that is like painting in primary colours, a reduced palette that gives me a pleasure in the object as well as in using it. I'll stick with fixed for its simplicity, elegance and fun.

Having said that, there is a great learning curve from building and maintaining a fixed gear bike - their accessibility has meant that I've been less intimated about building wheels, putting bikes together...I fully expect this to lead to a lifetime of tinkering, with the type of bike reflecting my needs at the time; whether Fixed, Tourer, Recumbent, Unicycle...can't wait!

  • yes - future's bright.

So bright, you got to wear shades?

  • got a crazy teacher that wears dark glasses
