might be an idea to limit the GI in the style of fixed road TT races? or not?

It's only a few hundred metres. I think limiting the GI is a bit much for what is essentially cocking about on a Friday night.
A low GI will get you up to speed quickly, a big one will mean you're slower off the mark, but have a better top end... Which one to choose?
Just to clarify, this is fixed gear or single speed only.
If this goes well, wait to see what we've got up our sleeves for round 2!

Oh come on.....seriously? we are talking about street/drag races organised on bikes! not an officially sanctioned tour de whatever flippin race, to me drag racing is just about the rider/racer trying to whoop the other guy in the lane next to him, not about gearing/equipment restrictions.....at least thats how I remember it when I used to organise ahem certain car races.

Yeah.. just casual, chilled out bunch of guys and gals racing up and down the road.. nothing serious to it at all. With that in mind, I'll be using my commuter, as below..

hippy, it's no use, you might as well give up. There will still be many people wilier than you, and you know that that's what's required in a sprint. ;)

i like the sound of this but that night clashes with mates band playing a rare gig in londons famous london and sols leaving drinks from, you guessed it, londons famous london. three things in londons famous london in one night. doable. but will need to get 95 GI out to play. and sup up on some good old london towns famous londons htfu.

It's Rat Pack Hustle, and it even claims that it was "started as an homage to LA's Wolf Pack Hustle".
And obviously the LA one invented racing on bikes.
How's NY?

We are looking to run some fixed gear sprints in Hackney Wick on the 27th for those looking for a break from polo/trix/rolla racing. Sano has located an amazing spot and we figure on having people down there around 7pm, running timed sprints with the leading contenders then going through to a series of elimination drag sprints (course is around 250 metres give or take quite a few metres). Good opportunity for those who want to try their legs out before Herne Hill opens.
Plan is for people to gather at Royal Inn on the Park (aka East Drinks) at 6:30pm, leaving for the site at 6:40pm. Royal Inn on the Park's location can be found below.
http://maps.google.co.uk/maps?q=E9+7HJ&spn=0.005,0.02&hl=en
We'll look to get location down on a map for those looking to get directly there soon although would recommend the above meeting point for those who aren't so familiar with Hackney Wick.
For those needing to check details - I can be reached on the number listed from the following link
http://www.londonfgss.com/post353742-138.html
Directions
Basically, get yourself to the Bethnal Green Road end of Old Ford Road and head straight down it (East). Old Ford Road is probably a mile long with inclines and a few twists - just keep going straight and you'll be right. The road goes over a canal, past Victoria Park on your left then over a roundabout at Grove Road (if you go left here, you'll end up at the Royal Inn on the Park, or East Drinks). After that, the road goes over another canal and a mini roundabout, before ending up at a crossroads with traffic lights.
Go over the traffic lights and on your left is Old Ford Supermarket (also known as Fred's).
The sign is bright yellow and lit up. Buy your beers here (Kroney, 6 for a fiver, etc). Carry straight on down to the footbridge and go over.
On your left as you go over is the Big Yellow storage.
This is a pretty good landmark if you get lost as the chimney is the biggest thing in the area and is really close to the Greenway, where the Sprints are going to be. After the footbridge, turn left at the roundabout and up the slight hill to the roadworks and traffic light.
The Big Yellow Storage is on your left. On your right is the roadworks
Go through the gap which is the entrance to the Greenway
If you get to some steps, you've gone to far, the Greenway is behind to the right. Ride down the greenway for about 500m and you'll see us. The first 100m is not well lit, so man up and get pedalling.
Map of how to get there
For those more digitally minded, the following is a rough idea of where we'll be.
http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?client=safari&oe=UTF-8&ie=UTF8&hl=en&msa=0&ll=51.537307,-0.024172&spn=0.007608,0.018389&t=h&z=16&msid=103738621094633940090.000463d80818eb5dabe22
Don't forget meet at Easts 6:30 to travel with a crew and bring a cup if you feel like some soup
Spoke cards to come...
