just go to Condor and get one for £15, if you 'really' need it.

Aha there's the problem though, i dont have the cash.
I know £15 isn't much but if i can get this one for £5 because i just happen to have £5 in my wallet today ill be saving £10.
The remaining £10 can be used for better causes, and the sooner i finish this new bike the sooner i can sell the old one for a bit more cash to get on with some things.

Maybe a bit of a stupid question, but how did you remove the graphics/writing from the chainring?

caustic soda + hot water

for crappy decals on metal, making your own sandpaper with tape and sugar works - hard enough to remove the stuff but not to scratch anything.
