  • Hi.

Wanted to ask about the forum first incase there's someone on here with the skills.

I have a nice tight peugeot frame which i really love and have been riding for about 7months now. The only problem is the rear drop-outs are vertical. I have resolved this with a Singleator but I really fancy getting rid of it and possibly going fixed back there (its SS atm).

I always thought it a bit extravagant to replace the drop-outs on such a lo-grade frame but i've come to really like it and unless i can find a decent replacement (seems vintage frames are going for bucks on the bay now), I'd like to try n get them cut out n replaced with horizontals.

Is anyone here up to the job? Fancy the work? Or could you recommend me anyone else who could get in on it?

    Thanks much.

  • Eccentric Hub/BB might be cheaper, I don't know.

  • mm.. yeah i considered that when i originally bought the Singleator but I dunno. Seems like a lot of money for what feels a bit like a 'hack' to me.

  • Speak to Ted at Fixed Gear London - I think he charges about £60 to do this.

  • Search for "dropouts". There's loads of threads on this. Most people suggest SuperTed and I was happy with Witcomb.

  • I thinkI could do it but don't have liability insurance so wouldn't like to risk it just in case the unthinkable happens. Go to a pro.

Thing is, what I suggested can potentially be transferred onto another bike, and another, if needed etc.

Spending a shedload on some new dropouts on a beater isn't as good of an investment IMO. But you probably really like the bike, so...do what you want I suppose :)

  • Thanks for the advise chaps. I'll get onto Ted. See what he's sayin

  • Try a half-link chain and slightly elongating the drop out front to rear with a file first. You may be suprised how well it works and the half link chains look great too.

  • You don't need a half link chain. Just a single half link would do it.

  • You'll need new paint on at least 10cm of chainstay & seatstay.
