matty you are correct, back on the old vanilla forum, we did indeed have a map for all things bike related, see link below.
It somehow got lost in the transition, but if you want to add it to your original post, or merge with your map feel free. This map includes locations of some forum members and places of interest to the forum, bike shops, polo, drinks etc. Don't know when it was updated last though..http://maps.google.co.uk/maps/ms?msa=0&msid=102018849781943482616.00044bdd439eb52e42331

It would be great if we could use different markers for 'recommended shops'.

There's a funny little bike shop at the Elephant and Castle roundabout, under the arches. They have some fabulous antique bikes in there, as well as a load of old shit.

I have started a map on Google of London bike shops . . . . .
. . . . . I've had a search to see if this has been done before, but didn't find anything. Now I bet the first response will be to an existing map :)

(shops are denoted by dollar signs)

@ Cornelius & Tynan - Yea, I came across that map (via google maps rather than the forum, oddly enough), but I opted to go for a new one for a couple of reasons - firstly that I wanted to do one solely for bike shops, and secondly that the existing one had a bunch of personal information, and I didn't want to go ahead and resurrect / publicise that.
@ VB - Sure, that sounds like a good idea. There is the option to have a custom marker (could to red for poor reviews, yellow for neutral, green for good), but it would be pretty tedious. Would be more fun to do something programmatically via Google API. I wouldn't really know where to start with this, but is it something you could link from the forum somehow? Maybe via a poll?
I changed the URL to something more obvious / easier to remember. Old one still works though.

Added Bike Whisperer (who I definitely recommend), Ealing Cycles and Action Bikes (Uxbridge Rd) for the westies.

I wouldn't have spotted it if I hadn't been waiting for a bus. They do have some good kids' bikes as well as the antique stuff. I like their principle of reconditioning old bikes to put them back on the road.

You should get collaborating with the Camden Cyclists

Just added Brixton Cycles and a little LBS in East Dulwich/Peckham called Balfe's Bikes that I've never used but go past a lot

Rob's (Sargent's?) on Mountgrove Road N4 is missing, as is Finsbury cycles, as is the one-legged Columbian dude in Tottenham, as is the excellent Bikeworks on Old Ford Road.

@ tricitybendix - wow, looks like they might have the map thing covered. Still, I like the idea of everyone being able to add stuff.
@ Winston - feel free to add them! You will need a google account. If you use gmail, Picasa, blogger, or any other google product, you can use that login (I think).
@ all contributors - thanks! the map is looking great!

they also offered to buy/ exchange her bike for another when she grows out of it , which i thought was a nice angle.

Thanks 50x14. Map is shaping up nicely.
EDIT: @VB - no embedding of google maps allowed?
I have started a map on Google of London bike shops. It's open collaboration, so feel free to add shops and comments.
For me, I like to see information like this on a map, so that I can see which shops are viable options for me, depending on where I am. This is particularly useful from mobile devices, when you have some mechanical failure in a neighbourhood you're not familiar with.
Hope that people find it useful!
EDIT:
Velocio has kindly linked the map from the main navbar. Just click where it says "shops" on the grey bar, or head to
