By the time I left HQ the fastest time was 18:42 but there were about 30 times still to come in.

Boom! Congrats.

Cheers. Not sure where it came from, to be honest. Apart from an abortive attempt to ride the Alpenbrevet last weekend (got to the top of the first climb, went straight back to the hotel) I've only ridden a Brompton for the last 3 weeks thanks to near-terminal manflu.

What's with that brake lever? Isnt inboard of the widest part of the bars illegal?
-
• #16556
What's with that brake lever?
Which brake lever? I'm only seeing the two which are in the normal position.
-
• #16557
Must be the photo or something. It looks weird as hell to me.
-
• #16558
I see it now, it's the sheen on the bar making it look like there's something sticking out the side of the lever. Typical, the one night I don't drink and my vision goes wonky...
-
• #16559
Go home hippy, you're drunk.
-
• #16560
I could see how this one might be confusing

But all is revealed in close up

"(a) Brake levers must be secured to the handlebars in such a position as to enable the competitor to readily apply both brakes whilst holding the handlebars at their widest point. The width of handlebars shall be no less than 35 cms."
It was just a trick of the light. Made it look like there was something poking out one side.

Does that mean that the USE Tula bars are not legal?

Does that mean that the USE Tula bars are not legal?
I've seen a demonstration of how the Tula brake lever can be actuated while holding the pods, so they are technically legal, but it's not an area where I'd want to be sacrificing usability for the sake of marginal gains.

It was just a trick of the light.
There should be rules about tricks of the light, otherwise anyone can exploit tricks of the light for unfair gains.
-
• #16566
I've used a brake lever positioned inwards like that, honestly didn't think it made much difference to braking.
-
• #16567
Tulas are different from that
-
• #16568
Would make red bikes illegal
-
• #16569
Never thought about turning the levers inwards for teh aeroz. But I need to do other stuff first before even considering that, such as actually getting fit and losing a bit of weight!
-
• #16570
If you can grab them in time.
-
• #16571
They're still in the same place.
I'd just do a skid anyway ;)
-
• #16572
I wonder if anyone actually tested that position? Could it just serve to mess up the air over the base bar?
-
• #16573
I'd imagine he has:
I guess the assumption is it's better to have dirty air going over the base bar than dirt air going into the void behind the levers.
-
• #16574
There's nothing of those levers. Mine are chunkier... like the rider.

What's on the back of his calf?
I moved he levers like that on the basis that if the fast people do it there must be some benefit... took about 10 minutes to adapt, and braking is not different to it being underneath the bars.
speedy. my mates Gary and Barry were up there i think, heard on the grapevine they did 18m on the tandem but havent seen the results. What was the fastest solo?
