Ted did it last year. At least, he thinks he did.
As I recall the story, he remembers being in FGL, drunk, and thinking it would be a good idea to go to see a lady south of the river. The next thing he remembers is coming to on the exit road of the Blackwall tunnel south side.

MMMMM i fail to see the doom in the tunnel right there
Usually it's the descent and being fixed. When we went through the limehouse link 20 months ago, I was SS and everyone else was FG. Poor sods, slamm and dt were brilliant though.
The doom bit is the descent and likelihood of crashing on that bit, coupled with the fast moving traffic just to the side of you.
Fun stuff, and more than a little scary when you go down there on your own (as I did with the limehouse link about 8 months ago).

Worst thing about accidentally going through Limehouse Link (thanks Gmaps) is the pollution down there and the climb out; you're sucking in massive lungfuls of crap at a massively higher concentration than the surface. Gave me an instant smokers cough for ages afterwards.

- Russian Tunnel. Crash. This is better than turn 4 at Dayton[/ame]and the grids and the oil and the fumes

I did the Rotherhithe tunnel years ago and it was the fumes that were the worst. You hit them near the bottom just as you start to climb.

went through the blackwall tunnel tonight and got shouted at by some chick on the tannoy coming out the north side. bicycles are not allowed apparently. um... why not? what specific law would you be breaking and has anyone been nicked?

I used to do that bitch on my bmx a few years back. You're right about the pre-climb fumes, i used to wear my badass workshop dustmask which helped somewhat, with the downside that it restricts the volume of air you can take in. End up just as light-headed as without the mask but with slightly less gack. Filters looked like fag ends after about 20 runs. Used to try to build up as much speed as possible before entering the tunnel then coast til the last possible minute and try not to breath.
Up for late night summer tunnel racing if it happens -

I rode through the RT every day, twice, for about five years. Perhaps that's why I'm not as fast as used to be?

Did the tunnel at the north end of Waterloo bridge on a Critical Mass about a year ago. Loads of cyclists, at speed. A lot of fun!

I just got lost on the way back from dropping some bits off near Canary Wharf. What should have been an hour too and fro became just over twice that. I made the journey out, cool cool; though on the return leg...
"What's this, a tunnel? Well, I didn't hit it on the way down but it looks feasible".
The tunnel was Blackwall tunnel; the large, angry, smog-filled tube. Brill.
Out the otherside and I'm in Greenwich. I don't know the area well at all, and I figured that I could cycle around until an alternative overground route was encountered. All alternative routes seemed to involve dropping further South, away from the sticky-outy bit, before turning round and plotting a course for home. Woolwich, anyone?
So after an hour of scooting around the O2, and swearing with increasing frequency (at one point reaching once every other second), I decide that the only course of action is to come back through the Blackwall Tunnel, returning to where my idiocy had taken hold.
Cock.

I mebe found that? I took a punt on an awkward looking angular path, despite signs saying that it was closed for refurbishment.
A short way in, and it was closed for refurbishment. I thought about a chance dash across the building site, but at that point I'd pretty much looped back around to the tunnel.
