French BB

  • Does anyone know where I can find a french 107mm bb?

  • ha good luck! you just missed some french thread sugino cups on ebay, then you just need to find the axle.

it's hit and miss, you might not see another for a month or have two next week.

    what frame is this for?

  • 90s custom built french track frame...
Was from Tilly cycles in Paris.

  • I just need the axle...the cups aren't a problem..

  • you could try tour de ville/jos, they had one a while back...

  • There isn't anything French about the axle. If you've got the cups then fit any spindle of correct length and taper.

  • Guess it is the cups then.
Basically... the current BB that came with the frame screw all the way into the shell, but leaves no space for a lock ring to be tightened on to it...

so it's the cups I need then..?

If the bb shell is French, then the fixed cup will have a right hand thread.
If it's left hand, then the shell is British.

  • Right hand thread

Is this with or without spindle and bearings? If without, you don't have a problem.
If with, what size balls are you using?

  • With spindle and bearings.
I don't have a cluue what size the ball bearings are

  • LBS, I think.

  • sorry for sounding naive but what's LBS??

  • sell me the frame.

  • LBS = local bike shop

  • all you need is a spindle and 3/8" bearings (i think, could be wrong). some twin cup BB's don't run a lockring, but may walk loose

need to some homework b4 you buy a bike. also note that you will have a french headset, which are just as a pain in the ass to find.

  • There is a bike shop on all saints road (off portabello) that does French BB's.. I phoned them for a 70's Peugeout conversion I'm building for a mate and they reckon they have loads in stock...

Yeah I realise that now... rather stupid.
Well... me and Rosmal tightened the cups as much as we could... and the spindle doesn't move from side-to-side. It's when the left cup that isn't screwed in the whole way (for the lockring) that the spindle moves left and right....
I need a TA spindle. For some reason.. the parts are mixed: TA cups, Campag spindle.
Just need to find the right spindle...

Really? Do you know what it's called?

  • you don't need a TA spindle. phil wood, miche and other BB use two floating cups, no lockring.
