  • Hi all.
I'm after some stuff to build a tourer, as cheap as I can manage (famous last words!)

Hubs/ or wheelset spaced 126 or 130mm, 36h min. Freewheel's fine, probably ought to go cassette though, to try and keep up.
Derailleurs (perhaps for triple), friction probably.
Bar end shifters and Cable stop (is there such a thing that fits onto/over DT shifter brazeons, anyone?)
Some comfy bars 40 or 42 mm
canti Brakes, levers that'll work em (will levers for calipers not work?)
    Long quill/rising quill/ quill-A Head converter.
Racks (front bosses are low-rider I think... how do I tell?)
    Luggage
Ummm probably loads of other things.

Have a look in your sheds, people with with sheds. ANY help gratefully recieved.

    Cheers
    Skully

  • Not sure if they'd be any help to you but I've got some drop bars off an old BSA tourer, with weinmann brake levers?

  • i got nothing

  • I've got a few derailleurs and old brake levers for drops. You can have all of them, as I was about to chuck them. I have a rear rack if you want it too.

  • I've got a great rack.

Well its a tired old rear rack off a geoff butler tourer and probably some old bars too if you want 'em?

  • Thanks for that, Dale. I somehow thought you wouldn't.

George: any chance of a picture when you get a chance? I am probably going to spend a bit on the bits that I am in contamt contact with, like bars and pedals. I am thinking of the nitto bars that have a bend in the tops, meant to be very comfy indeed. But I'm interested, nonetheless!

  • some down-tube shifters here, but nothing fancy

edit. read twice, no bar end ones, sorry

  • Full SunTour GPX gear and brake set along with matching GPX/Rigida wheels.

As well as bars and stems.

    Cheap, cheap, cheap!

  • Dougie: Interested in derailleurs. The levers: are they for calipers? I am in a bit of a wilderness in lack of knowledge regarding V brakes.

Snowy: I have a simple blackburn rear rack, but if yours has any more support sticking out, rather than their basic triangle shape, I'm interested.

    ta!

  • don't have any extra bit, sorry, but can answer som of the questions, i think...
    **
Bar end shifters and Cable stop (is there such a thing that fits onto/over DT shifter brazeons, anyone?)** - you mean these? (we've got some at cavo, cheap like)

** V Brakes, levers that'll work em (will levers for calipers not work?)**
not usually, though you can get 'roll-a-majigs' that'll make em work, but still not great. go cantilever!

** Racks (front bosses are low-rider I think... how do I tell?)**
lowrider rack bosses should be 160mm apart (from centre of eyelet on back of front dropout to centre of fork braze on/drilling)

    edit-
actually i have two pairs of spd pedals if you want em, double sided ones, shimano M540's (good) and some cheaper shimano ones.

  • Am currently tidying and searching fo my camera! Will post a pic as soon as.

  • I'll take a look later, how much of a hurry are you in?

  • some down-tube shifters here, but nothing fancy

edit. read twice, no bar end ones, sorry

Ok , thanks though. I'll probably pass.

Go with normal cantilever instead of v-breaks. They will be good enough if setup correctly plus you will not have the hassle and expense of trying to get road leavers with the correct pull.

    Stem.

    Cheers Tommy, advice gratefully recieved.

    Cheap, cheap, cheap!

Ineterested! Very. Pm me with any detail, prices, please?

    Hassan, thanks for your help.

  • I'll take a look later, how much of a hurry are you in?

Not in any kind of hurry at all!

    Cheers

  • dunno if you're going the STI or spd route, but i've got some sora 8spd STIs and shimano spd pedals if you fancy (both for cheap)

  • Hassan
Probably OUGHT to be thinking about both. Bike still very much in the planning stages at the moment, I'll think seriously about those. Thanks.

  • The levers were with calipers, but I know very little about V brakes either. I'll give you the lot and you can chuck what you don't want.

  • I have a whole 21 1/2 seat tube and 22 top tube (if I remember correctly) Raleigh Audax 21 speed exactly as brand spanking new with all the bits you list, icluding canti's and bar end changers......why fart and faff about?

Gimme some money and end of, off you trot as a happy bunny, it'll save me the job of updating with 9 speed etc etc

PS no rack as I gave that away, no use to me!

  • oh well, suit yourself, if interested pm me please

  • Sorry for the thread Hijack, Im in need of some downtube shifters for my tourer if anyone wants to thow some my way for cheap it would be appreciated.

  • ^you can have an odd mismatched unbranded pair for free! apart from that they're in good order.

  • skully i got a rear weinmann brake lever with brake caliper, also i have some rear mechs and front derailleur, shimano sport lx.
    ill show you pics soon
