  • Things we do well on this forum, organise and go on a regular basis to Drinks, wherever they may be, and Ride.
So in the spirit of these two elements, comes the all new,
    New Members Compass Beer Rides.

It has been noted that meeting up with a big group of forumengers that you don't know in a pub can be slightly intimidating. So to make it less so, this idea has been put forward to combine drinks and rides.

Think of it as a Forum Fresher's week, without the hazing, so that the previous months new members get a chance to meet up with, and ride with fellow forumengers. Talk bikes, find out where drinks are, and get a good ride in at the same time
You can come out to the beers closest to you, or trek out to a beers on the otherside of town, safe in the knowledge that you'll be with people who a) know where they are going, and that b) someone will be heading back in your general direction so you can ride home in the company of another forumenger.

So For One Week, every couple of months, there will be rides from Trafalgar Sq, to the Beers,

**Monday - Souths @ The Coach and Horses
Tuesday - Norths @ The Flask or
Tuesday - South Easts @ The Kings Arms or
Tuesday - Trixie Dix @ **White's Row Car Park Roof. White's Row, Off Commercial Street
** Wednesday - Easts @ The Royal Inn on the Park
Thursday - Wests @ The Crabtree or The Ship (season dependent)
Sunday - Polo @ Downham Rd Polo Courts.**

A couple of regulars from each beers will be at Trafalgar Sq from approx 6.30 for a prompt 7pm departure, (1pm for a 1.30pm departure on Sunday) And will take any new member who so wishes for a ride which will arrive at beers/polo.

The Next Compass Beer Rides will be
    May 11-17** 2009**.

with provisional dates for the following being
    **
    Jun 8-14**.
    **July 13-19
    Sept 7-13
    **
Edit: The route to beers from Trafalgar Sq is to be decided by the regular who will be leading the group. Personally I think the route should be scenic and fun, and shouldn't be too breakneck a pace. Any suggestions for routes are welcome, just post them up here, or in the routes database.

Depending on how many new members/faces sign up and add their names to the ubiquitous forum list, the dates can be moved on a month or two, or brought forward.

So New Members start here, come down to the ride to the beers, introduce yourself to other new and regular members, get a good ride into a beers, enjoy a soothing alcoholic beverage in the soothing presence of your new found bike friends and get a warm and fuzzy feeling at being welcomed into the collective forum bosom.

    Ps.
I didn't include the John Snow or the Foundry on the Compass Beers list, since they are fairly adhoc events, sometimes, people head to them, sometimes not. So thought it'd be best to leave them off.
Also the meeting up and departure time could be bought forward by half an hour if enough people want to meet and leave earlier.

    That is all...

  • Great idea Corny

  • +1 good man.

  • Great idea Corny. You are this forum's model citizen.

I'm happy to ride out to Souths on the Monday if you're looking for volunteers.

  • then why not ride to west's huh? huh?

  • Andyp, cool. I'm hoping that there are enough regulars at each beers so that no one ever has to do it (lead the convoy from trafalgar sq to whichever beers) on a regular basis, and it can be handled by whoever is in town, and feels like coming to beers that particular evening, because as we know, work/life can get in the way. But if your down for the first one in feb, I'm sure you'll give the new members a pleasant jaunt down south.

  • ... and trixie dix on tuesday?

  • I'm sure whoever leads the route can pass by Trixie's.
But you are right Teddy, post fail in forgetting Trixie's, was trying not to put in too many destinations on one night.

  • then why not ride to west's huh? huh?

Too far from home. I get nosebleeds when I go beyond W1. ;-)

  • it's only 15/20 mins from west beers to souths.

I don't have any gold stars, but if I did you'd get one. Enjoy the ride and the beers after...

  • I'd like a trip out to Easts one night but have no idea at all how to get there, so I'm up for something or other.

  • Btw, I quite fancy poncying about in tweed. Trixie Dix tweed edition?
