Bottom bracket lockring, without the wrench

Posted on
  • i have a cup and cone style bottom bracket. the lockring kept coming lose, so i decided to locktite it in place to hold it. worked for a couple of days, but the lockring is now bonded with the cup and the cup has come loose with the lockring attached.

until now ive been using the "tap round with a hammer and screwdriver" method to tighten it up as i dont own a wrench. ive been doing this on the bike for 2-3 years and ive never had a problem, but recently its been coming loose everytime i ride for more than a short commute.

i think the loosening is a result of me not doing the lockring up tight enough, but it was fine this way for a long time.

do you think this is the problem or should i look elsewhere for the solution?
is there any hack way i can tighten it up without a wrench?

    any ideas?

  • ended up using a pair of stilsons, and its much tighter than before. ill let you know how well it works
