You're already on track with the white spirit. Rubs some in over the sticker before you even try peeling.

The best stuff is Isopropyl Alcohol, or rubbing alcohol. Available OTC from any chemists for a few squids.

I'll see your emu oil & raise you marmot oil. My animal loving ex bought some of this in Austria for the cute picture of a marmot on the front. She was not o pleased when I translated the ingredients.

do you think that removing sticker will help to prevent bike theft in a minor way? for example, your bike is not advertising (as much) how much you spent on it?

Kim and Aggie used baby oil to get stickers off a floor...
... might be worth a shot. Plus its always good stuff to have around ;)
i really dislike the way bike manufacturers have to slather everything with logos and crappy stickers.
my new wheels have big stickers on that i cannot remove with my nails like i normally would. the rims are black anaodised so i dont want to take anything sharp to them.
ill use white spirit as normal to get the gunk off, but thats neither here nor there if i cant get the bloody sticker off.
any tips/advice on how to do this without making my new rims ugly?
