• Grosvenor Road (before Chelsea Embankment)

There is a burst main under the rail bridge. Don't be tempted to ride through the water, as under it lurks a rim busting pot hole.

VeeVee learned this to her peril. 2 Punctures and a dinged braking surface.

  • Get someone to take pics; you have a good chance of claiming off the council for damage to the bike. I did and I got the money.

  • cheers for the heads up.

  • I feel really stoopid :(

Just checked. It has been reported. Cheers Hippy.

  • I feel really stoopid :(

in all fairness, no one could detect a hole under a puddle.

don't forget to take photograph of the holes, the damage to your bike etc. as the council will pay for your wheel since it's up to them to keep the road maintained.

  • Grosvenor Road will be the remit of TfL. Call this number 020 7222 5600 and ask for central customer services to ask about making a claim for an arrowwspokk.

  • It never ceases to amaze me how fast they open up. That wasn't there at all three weeks ago. I came back from holiday last week and it must be 2 foot round and at least 2 inches deep.

  • I work for TfL, they will end up deducting it from my pay ;)
I am not someone who likes to claim but I should really have reported it myself this morning. Will do now.

    Thanks for all the advice.

  • Always avoid puddles if you can. You don't know what lurks in the murky depths.

Sadly it's a lesson you generally learn the hard way (I know I did).

to learn the easy way, take off mudguard and put on white tyres.

you'll never want to get those babies (and yourself) wet!

  • I saw the water too late and didn't want to swerve into the traffic. My 4-week old white Deep Vs are broken :(

I'm going to see the Jimbilly, he's going to check the damage for me.

    Is that safe for work?

  • depends where you work son.

  • i'll grab the rims if they are wrecked.

BTW should've bunny hopped it, wickd skillz!

  • ^I'm going to call you The Vulture from now on but yes you are right I need to learn bunny hop.

Super hero JimBilly fixed the rim, it's all good.

Vee vee, if you claim in this situation you are not *taking *money you are reclaiming it off the people who, by their negligence, have taken it off you. If your wheel is ok, fine, but if not then claim.

  • Is that safe for work?

Yeah but I can't vouch for the .com version :)

    Dont tell JDB:
[quote]What is this fucking America? First thing anyone says is sue sue sue! This is the attitude that has massively raised insurance premiums and made a lot of small community run activities impossible to run due to massive insurance costs.
Sorry to sound like a cunt but you ran into a pothole on the road whilst riding with in inadequate light, sounds to me like a fair proportion of blame lies with you. You got a smashed up wheel and no serious injuries so you should count yourself lucky. If you'd been seriuosly injured and needed £1000s of medical help then sue the council but if its only a smashed fron wheel then HTFU and take some responsiblity for your actions.[\quote]

    ;)

    glad ur ok VV

Sorry I didn't mean to sound like the perfect citizen and you are absolutely right to have claimed. It all depends on the situation.

    haha!

Was just about to pipe up (get it)

Its due to cold weather freezing water in pipes and causing them to crack, nothing to do with negligence. If your going to be jumping on the sue wagon then it may be a Thames Water issue not a TFL one, as the problem was caused by the pipe not the road.

Sounds like everything is alright now though, better keep my eyes open as I ride home that way too.
