thanks rusty. 290 is a great entry bike price. dont mind upgrading parts in time either so the wheel issue ive read about is ok for that price. thought getting one built up at the 3/400 mark was a bit optimistic like.

go for the Fuji, thats a great price. Just upgrade when you can then you'll get to the point where the only thing left to replace it the frame, so you can take your time and shop around a bit without losing the chance to ride.

....and in addition to Clefty's wise words, get yourself on a test ride first. Only buy what YOU like the feel of.

Everything on my Fuji has been completely replaced, but I'm in no great hurry to change the frame; it's decent, and I've just had it powder-coated.
For the money it's a great deal, just replace bits as they break/get too creaky.

yeh make sure it fits, I've come to realise that my frame is rather small for me.

ive been hovering around for a while now, looking for advice on a complete bike for a first timer. im interested in the fuji track, seems like a good first fixed. a post i read the other day said for roughly the same cash (maybe 400.00) i could ask someone lke the london fixed boys to build me one which would be better. is this correct? and does anyone have any examples of what they got going down this route ? post em up please . i did a search but coulnt get anything specifically around this price range .
This is how to to ask a question if you are a new member and don't want to get flamed. Well done Mr Status.

was lookin at that thread for way too long lol some really nice bkes. thing is im getting my bike out of my jan bonus and trying to restrain myself from spending too much for a first fixt. i was going to go dow n the route of changing my mtb to a ss but going to treat myself (well it is the new year after all) so im trying to stick to 400.00 and am tempted on more stunning bikes, although i have no idea how they ride i do like the the look of the track pro and cndale major....must resist lol
oh and just to add... if Mrs Status gives me grief for spending too much of my hard earned im blaming you lot. that bike porn thread is dangerous
