The sessions start at 0900 but you have to be there for around 0830 to get in. You must ride a track bike and they will loan you one for the session. I'm not sure on the prices but it's normally £3 per session and there are 3 or 4 sessions on a Saturday morning.
The track re-opens in March, weather permitting.

So once you have removed both of your brakes how are you planning on stopping?

DOh! searching Fail.
Herne hill track is closed for the winter, its an open track and the banking is slippy in the wet.
you could not ride a geared road bike there on a track session, although i think they may sometimes allow people to ride on it on a specific roadie session.
they have rental bikes there, in all sizes so if you want to give it a go just turn up on a saturday morning, the cost of rental is included in the price of the track sesion
you need to do an induction whereby you are taught the basics of riding on a track, and using a brakeless fixed gear bike.
this induction costs £5(?) and lasts about 1hr and it is followed by a training session which costs the same and lasts a couple fo hours.

Why not have a look at the Trackie subforum? All your questions are answered there and others besides that you have not yet thought of asking but perhaps should have.

Hi all,
Im interested in going to Herne Hill Velodrome for a track session.
I have been having a look on their website and see that there are open sessions on saturday mornings (which id like to attend). Has anyone got an idea of the price and length of these sessions?
Also, i currently ride a geared road/race bike, which has front and rear breaks. I understand they do not allow brakes to be used on the track, so would i be able to ride of these were simply disconnected? or would a fixed wheel be the best bet.
Thanks
