Does beer mess with your teeth?

Posted on
  • I might be a non-drinker who consumed a large quantity of peasants brew last night.

Something odd ive noticed is that my teeth are in pain/super sensitive

    Drink water = pain

    Eat food = pain

This is a bit strange right?

  • had enough sleep?

  • nope.

I get the same ting sometimes, It's full of sugar innit. It goes away by the afternoon.

It's even worse with cider, but it's all about kopparberg. Its worth the paaaiin!

  • Champagne can do this, so can drinking Gin & tonic... I think it's because they are acidic.

Never ever had this problem with beer tho

  • Come to think of it,

Cider, Gin & Champagne were also involved.

Well if its just the sugar & acid eating away at my tooth enamel I guess its case closed.

Interested morning after thread. Heres a random picture from my ride home this morning:

It was a much welcome purifying wholesome sight to begin the year.

Nooooo, Kopparberg is like fruit squash. This'll sort you out:

  • hella load of (acidity + sugar) = never very good for your teeth

i bet you forgot to brush your teeth aswell... tut tut

  • jeebus - Cannon Hill Park was that frozen??

admittedly mixed fruit kopparberg is like fruit squash, but not so much pear

    Westons Perry is far superior

You might be experiencing the pain because you brush your teeth too hard. It's best to use a soft toothbrush and make sure not to press down too hard when brushing. You may also want to try some toothpaste for sensitive teeth (like Sensodyne).

I've been told by a Dentist friend of mine that this is a very common issue.

  • Yep, the Westons Perry is fantastic stuff.

no no, its nothing like that.

I have never ever had sensitive teeth in my life. But just today, all my teeth feel wobbly & sore, sensitive at the roots (pressure) and tips (temperature) really extreme.

But I guess it shall pass.

  • Have you been punched right on the face?

  • no no, its nothing like that.

That' weird. Hope you get it sorted, though. If you figure out what it is, let us know... I'm very curious. Plus, I can just see something like this happening to me one day.

They don't have good cider in america. I just tried it and LOVE it.

but yes sugar and acid and not cleaning your teeth. It's like eating those sweets that are just powdered sugar or too many lolly pops.

  • You know it's a problem when you can drink a bottle of gin in a night and have pain free teeth but you can't eat half a kit-kat before your teeth start hurting.

  • It was a much welcome purifying wholesome sight to begin the year.

Beautiful. All the waterfowl all out of water!

  • I think if you really have to take your teeth out and soak them overnight, beer probably isn't best.

Dont like the sound of the wobbly bit.

I was diagnoised with peradontis at the beginning of last year (first trip to the dentist in 10 years). It is a infection in the roots of the teeth, which slowly but surely eats away at the jaw bone tissue. treatment is amazingly painful, and involves...

Removal of badly affected teeth (I've had 4 molars removed so far)
cutting the gum away from the teeth,
scrapping with a small sharp hook,
destruction of the small sacks of bacteria with a small ultra-sound probe, and
    stitching the gums back together.
To treat a whole mouth takes about six treatments.
Man 2008 was a shit year!

Apparently it is not that rare a complaint, especially with smokers, and often goes unnoticed.

    Dentist = friend

  • i dont have a problem with bad teeth, but i get vicious yellow tounge after a massive rum sesh, which essentially what my festive season has consisted of. it was toxic yellow the whole of new years day.

i dont get it as much when im drinking more regualry, and i think its bit like the stinky yellow of the smokers finger. i used to get that really badly when i was a youngen, but never do anymore. was funny trying to explain when i was at school on wednesday morn with yellow fingers and stinking of gin.
